I noticed an advert on this site for a chinese website selling guitars called tradetang.com and they are selling Gibson, Fender,Gretsch etc for ridiculously cheap prices. They purport to be genuine originals but obviously they are copies. Has anyone bought anything off this site and what has their experience been? The pictures shown are of genuine Gibsons etc but presumably that is not what you get. There are a lot of chinese guitars on the market now and some are excellent. I have tried an Aria semi acoustic similar to a Gibson es 335 and found that it played really nicely and the build and finish were excellent all for about £300. I bought a chinese acoustic from a local shop which was similar to a Martin but was badged "Woods". It has a solid spruce top, build quality is good and after some adjustments and different strings it plays and sounds wonderful (all for £130!). I have had various other acoustics before including a J45 Gibson and I must say that it is the best one I have ever had. If the tradetang site is sellling illegal copies then should the adverts be allowed to appear on this site?

Hi Russ, We have no control over the ads as they are automatically generated according the the content of the site. The responsibility for the ads is down to Proboards who derive their revenue from the ads and enables us to have this site for free. The alternative would be to pay proboards for an ad free site but I am not prepared to ask members to contribute towards that. I'm not so sure I approve of the cheap copies ads either but there's nothing I can really do about it. Regards, Charlie

They purport to be genuine originals but obviously they are copies. Has anyone bought anything off this site and what has their experience been? I have a friend who bought a guitar from such a Chinese supplier (not the same one). The guitar was supposed to be a "Marvin" fiesta red strat with gold hardware for $290 +shipping. The guitar was only delivered after several follow-up requests, it wasn't fiesta red and didn't had gold hardware. The overall quality was very poor. It doesn't mean that all Chinese suppliers are like that, some may be good, but you are taking risks when ordering such guitars without seeing them... And of course, these are couterfeit guitars, not genuine ones ! Didier
