Hi STeph Don't hesitate to adapt the settings to your guitar playing and your amp setting. the Eq2 is very powerful for working on tonal balance and with a little patience you can obtain great satisfaction. enjoy. bernard from France

Hi Steph I would be extremely pleased with the eq'd result, the first version comes back with 404 file not found? so cant comment. Steph have you got the original track without the mercury transformer or eq'd?. I am trying to work out exactly what is giving such a good result in a quantifiable way if you know what i mean.

Jono,
Apache is an extremely difficult instrumental to copy exactly UNLESS you can FIND the key to unlocking that "special sound".
If you have watched Paul Rossiter and Gary taylor on the "THAT SOUND" VIDEO on YouTube you will know that Gary nailed that sound. He was using Paul's 2007 STANDARD AMERICAN STRAT, fitted with CS54 PICK-UPS and I beleive 13 gauge "FLATWOUND" strings. Obviously he had a TVS3 and Pauls wonderful home built AC15/30 CLONE, fitted with a MERCURY OUTPUT TRANSFORMER.
The test on that video involved Gary seemingly just playing into Paul's amp mic'ed with the obligatory SHURE SM57 and Paul says no added reverb or compression....the sound on that test was SPOT-ON even before they EQ'd it and it had that "crucial" almost 3 dimensional sound which I cannot get even though I have everything in place apart from Paul's amp of course. It is nothing to do with playing technique either.
I have a STANDARD AMERICAN STRAT fitted with CS54 PICK-UP'S a set of 13 gauge flatwounds into my TVS3 and then into my AC15 Heritage ( normal channel) mic'd with a SHURE SM57. I can get almost a clone of the original SOUND, but crucially again that MAGIC "3 dimensional effect is missing which made it fall short.
"NOBODY" I have heard get's that 3 dimensional sound apart from Hank on the original recording and of course Gary Taylor.... In that youtube video when Gary plucks that SINGLE note you can HEAR that special sound/effect? which to me seems impossible to get just using THE STRAT, THE TVS3 and THE AMP.....I loved and respected Paul but there MUST be a missing ingredient..... as I said not ONE PERSON ON "HERE" has got that 3D EFFECT......LIKE ME, I have heard some on here get that exact sound but WITHOUT that essential 3D EFFECT.
Steph.

Hi Steph, The missing ingredient is Hank's fingers.
Kind regards,

Chris,
as I said, it's NOTHING to do with PLAYING style.

Steph I think the addition of Abroad's reverb is fundamental to opening up the 3rd dimension you're talking about I don't know if you have this plug-in but Wave made an emulation of the Studio 2 Clear Room the pre delay of the reverb is 120 ms and it corresponds precisely to the first bounce which is also 120 ms The combination of these "120 ms" gives incredible depth On the other hand - and I totally agree with you - Gary's version is very good but I think you should check if in your TVS there is something that reproduces what Hank's model F was capable of doing: send in the re injection without really reading it a head at 320 ms We are with Patrice and AdP thinking and we can undoubtedly in a while simulate this phonomena in my Clone because Patrice added a head at 120 ms....(the phantom head is also done in the Clone) and the 2 last rebounds are made with the Strymon which therefore benefits from the specific contribution of the Plateau.
