Hi all. I am a new member with a Love for Hank Marvin and the Shadows.. I am no Guitar Player, just a ( Bedroom Plinka Plonker ) as my wife calls me.!..My ambition is to at least be able to play a couple of Hanks numbers, to a good standard.. To this end, I have spent a small fortune on Guitars/amps and an assortment of Echo type units. I Wish I had known about this site and Charlie Hall earlier. I must thank members for their posts regarding Quadraverbs and their purchase..Saved me making a fool of myself again. Special thanks to You Charlie.. Without your input I would never ever have taken the plunge and bought the equipment. To all non members.. Read the Posts and consider joining the site..All members are genuinely helpful. Thanks again Charlie. Mike7559

Hi All
I too am new to this site and wish I had discovered it earlier. I have known about eftp for a little while now having attempted to recreate Hank's effects using a 20yr old BOSS ME-5 without a lot of success! I possess an Alesis Midiverb 4 but I understand it is not capable of supporting eftp (I guess because of insufficient multi-taps if nothing else). Having so far failed to obtain either a Q2 or Q20 I have managed to obtain a second hand Quadraverb GT which I guess could support some of the better known Shadows numbers but not all due to the smaller memory. The question is - are my assumptions correct and can I obtain a (defeatured) version of eftp that can be downloaded via MIDI. I don't mind if the whole machine is consumed with eftp as I have other devices to play with.
Many thanks for your assistance

Hi 'tinman' and welcome, Yes you can get Charlie's patches for a Quadraverb GT (the list of effects units that Charlie has programmed are here - charliehall.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=1110). I don't know the details but I believe the number of programmes for the Quadraverb GT will be sufficient for most Shadows numbers and you won't feel particularly short changed. Email Charlie - charliehallATntlworldDOTcom (replacing the AT with @ and the DOT with .) to find out more and to arrange to buy the programmes.

Hi tinman, I did look at the Midiverb 4 many years ago and found that its capabilities were not sufficient for EFTP programs. I wrote programs for the Quad GT also many years ago and updated them around 1998 after writing programs for the Q2. They are unchanged for the GT since then. All the echoes you should want for Shadows tunes are included. The price of the files is £50. Bill has given my email address so please contact me for further details if you are interested. Regards, Charlie

Hi bill3 and Charlie
Many thanks for your responses. I will E-mail you Charlie to arrange to purchase the eftp 'pack' for the GT so I will then have a machine to use (the GT) a machine to look at (the Midiverb4) and a machine to trip over (the ME-5)! Thanks for a great and informed site.
Best Regards
tinman (not my real name)

Welcome to the forum Tinny. I had an ME-5 from new and loved it to bits. Gigged with it for many years - solid as a rock and great sounds. At home I used its Plate echo for the mic when recording. Got rid of it last year and miss it now. I still have the "optional" EV-10 pedal.

Hi olemuso I wasn't knocking the ME-5 it is a super unit and was expensive when I bought it. I am not a professional musician but an electronics engineer and so it wasn't used to its full extent. I looked elsewhere when I found that the great master switched effects mid tune without changing the effect settings. The ME-5 I reckoned required patch changes to do this. I guess I will still play with it as it is actually has a lower noise level than the Quadraverbs.
Cheers tinman

Hi bill3
I have now received the eftp pack from Charlie and the programme file loaded into my Q/GT with no problems. The effects (the few I have tried so far are brilliantly realistic and Apache no longer sounds like marauding Savages on horseback. The backup data is astonishing and there is no possibility of me feeling short changed. Overall - a brilliant job!

Hi Charlie
I have received and installed the file for the Q/GT with no problems at all. The effects I have tried so far are brilliantly realistic so much so that, even with my (low!) standard of playing, the end effect sounds good. The backup data is quite astonishing in the level of detail provided and the information relating to backing tracks, music and tablature would have taken me years (it already has!) to find out about had I not contacted you. Thanks again for a brilliant job.
Cheers, tinman
