Hi All, Early morning just having a brew after a long drive back from Kent and I've got to thinking are there any members in the Manchester area who would like to meet up of a evening or a weekend on the odd occasion and may be swop ideas and tips on playing Shads numbers. This is a great site and since I have been a member I have learned a great deal but I remember from a long long- long time ago when I played in a band that playing with other guitar players would help me get past those walls that I would hit with my playing. Sometimes just watching other players up close and chatting about technique, trying different pieces of kit or learning about amp settings would help in going up a notch or two. Anybody think this is a good idea ? On a note of caution this may involve a beer or two Cheers Paul ( South Manchester )

Hi paul I would be interested in a possible meet up for a shadows jam and a couple of beers in the future as I am in south manchester too. I've only been playing shads for just short of a year now although I've played guitar since i was about fifteen. I was in a rock/pop cover band with a bunch of lads from school which went pear shaped about 10 years ago, think it had a lot to do with children on the scene and nobody was able to commit properley etc. Anyway to cut a long story short'ish lol, I started work last december in a local nursing home, learnt several shadows numbers and went in at weekend and played for the residents. did a gig for them last sunday and i'm up to 22 tunes now although they are no where near perfect, charlies echo's do help a lot mind. I've never played lead guitar before so it has been an up hill struggle all the way, I've enjoyed every minute of it mind!. There is a semi-local guitar club I was thinking of paying a visit to at the end of the month that you might be interested in, www.freewebs.com/cheshireguitar/. Look forward to hearing from you Paul, My email is on the board if you want to exchange location / contact details etc, I'm about 8 miles south of manchester etc. Regardz Neil

Hello Neil and Daryl, Good to hear from you guys, will give you a little bit of info about myself I played rhythm guitar in a band in the early 90's for a couple of years mainly 60's stuff could never get the hang of the lead bit save for a couple of intro's plus I didn't have the nerve to be up front tried it a couple of times and hit every bum note possible. It's only in the last year that I've picked up the guitar again and tried to be Hank. I have got a couple of Classic vibe strats and an acoustic played through a Mstomp with Charlies patches into a Vox 15 watt valvetronic or in to my PA also have a Jamvox which is quite good. I have enabled my e-mail in my profile, Neil I will send you a mail with my mobile number and we can have a chat. Daz I can't see your mail addy its hidden but please feel free to drop me a line. If you guys would like to come round to my place one Sunday afternoon you would be more than welcome. Bring your guitars, effects and even an amp, it would be great to try out different gear and see how we set things up. There is a local pub nearby, really nice and quite big used to have a guitar player there for a while but know it is as dead as a door nail, you never know may be we could use it as a practice venue. Cheers. Paul

Hi Paul,
I've unhidden my email so you should be able to see it now. Sundays are a bit of a problem unless you don't mind me bringing my disabled stepson (in a wheelchair) - he likes noise and people!! I go to my ex's on Sundays to help her with him and her 2 grandsons.
I too played rhythm in the mid 70's with one of my friends whose mum was a semi pro C&W singer, we used to do the backing for her, usually with the bass and drummer from the club she was at, and then do a few Shads numbers. I then moved away and didn't touch a guitar til Dec 2006 when in a moment of madness ordered a 60th Anniversary Mex Strat from Dawsons along with a Fender Frontman amp. Got a Zoom g2 with Charlies's patches then a Vox DA20. I also get the shakes when playing at the front (I certainly did at the Sale Shadows club when I plucked up the courage to have a go there), but I think I'm getting better.

Hi to daz and paul
One sunday afternoon would be good for me although could be flexible to suit daz, I visit my dad in northwich who is semi- dis-abled on sundays to take him shopping, will explain when we meet up. Won't be able to do much for the next two weeks, been off with the lurgy last week so will struggle to get a weeks work done without collapsing etc , we are busy next weekend and the weekend after but should be ok after that. I will email you my mobile number later paul. Like Daz I played in a pub band up until about 10 years ago playing rhythm guitar, never had the bottle to do lead lol. Anyway, I had'nt really played much guitar since the band split until now, I play an hours shads tunes at the nursing home I am a caretaker for once a month, I think I have done about 6 gigs and every one I get the shakes for about 3 tunes( built in tremolo lol). I don't know why the nerves because I know everybody, mind you, unlike rhythm playing everybody is watching you. I don't suppose there is anybody else to watch seeing as i'm on my own with the backing tracks. Started with about nine tunes and am up to 23 now, They are not to the standards of some of these guyz on here but you've gotta start somewhere, practice makes perfect etc For the gigs I use a 100w peavy mixer amp, Telecaster( what i'd like a trem on) , a zoom g2 with charlies patches and a small netbook for the backing .
Cheers
Neil

Hi Daryl, Bringing your stepson is no problem, have a set of patio doors at the back so access is ok. Will drop you a mail and swap phone numbers then hopefully we should all be able to arrange a practice session, will be good to learn some new stuff Neil knows about five times the numbers I do. My girlfriend as said she will go out shopping sounds like it could be expensive for me. Catch you all later, Cheers Paul
