Hi Rob, I had seen that article fairly recently. I wish it gave more details about the finishes before 1963. It seems to imply that all vintage Fenders have a poly coat, whereas it most likely isn't the case for the earliest models, and perhaps especially sunburst finishes. Regards, Charlie

Hi Rob,
Its something I have encountered quite recently when re-finishing an American Standard, that last clearcoat is like trying to get rid of a concrete jacket.
