Hi all, Does any one know anything about the Swedish made pickups 'Kemi'. Ronnie Gustavsson from the band '1961' uses them in his Strats and the sound he gets is awsome. I do realise that pickups are just one part of the overall sound. I have to say that his sound is my grail. I talked to Ronnie a few years ago at 'Pipeline' and found out about most of his equipment and settings, but we never really talked about his pickups.

Hi all, I saw Ronnie at a pipeline event in London quite a few years ago and the sound he got was great. I was very impressed and noted that he used an old vox echo box which no doubt contributed to it. Having seen your post I googled his name and found him playing on utube. And..... he still sounds brilliant.
Peter, you said you noted the settings he uses. Could you tell us the settings he used on his vox amp? I now have a quadraverb with Charlies EFTP and although I use a Musicman or a Peavey encore, I would like to see if I can achieve something similar on one of my amps before possibly changing one for a Vox.
Cheers,
Mick

Hi Mick, The last I heard Ronnie uses a graphic EQ to boost the mids. I think it is a Boss 1/2 rackmount model, not sure how many bands it has. He probably still uses it. I doubt that Hank ever used such a tone modifier, if that is any help. Ronnie has used, and probably still does use, a modified Vox Longtom echo. As far as I know, his favourite head selections are 1, 5, and 6, and/or 1, 2, and 6. Using the heads 1 and 2 in this way give him a double tracking kind of effect with a very long echo. I think before the unit was modified he used the standard heads selection 5 and 6, possibly he still sometimes does. Regards, Charlie

Hi Tommy,
Not sure about the pickups in a left handed MIM strat but the pickups in a MIJ lefty strat are not as good as those fitted in the eqivalent right handed guitar. They are considerably cheaper models on the left handed guitar.
The options available for lefties are quite restricted. A good value for money pickup is the Tonerider Vintage, other companies will make left handed pickups but thet are loads more expensive.
As with most things, it all comes down to cost. The best sounding left handed pickups I have found so far are the 57/62 set fitted to my Fender American Vintage ReIssue strat.
Sorry for butting in on your thread Peter.
Cheers Barry

Hi Glyderslead & Charlie You are both about right with Ronnie's set up. His Graphic unit is a Boss GE-10, mains powered. It has 10 sliders. Ronnie is a big fan of the Longtom and he used it live at the last Pipeline he attended. The 2 numbers that i drool over is Flight to Paradise and Hooray for the Brave Soldiers.
