Hello again from the colonies. Can anyone please share opinions/comments on the Mighty Mite birdseye maple necks? I'm tempted to use one on my latest strat project. It will have 57/62 pickups and Wilkinson gold hardware. The colour of course is Fiesta Red!!! Thanks in anticipation. JB

Hi JB, I think I would look elsewhere. I bought a body off the well known auction site earlier this year, it was actually the UK "manufacturer" selling it, it was the worst body I have ever seen, not even made of alder as described. I think it turned out to be poplar. I did some research and found that some people who had seen the same bodies thought they originated from Mighty Mite. As far as I know Mighty Mite are made in Japan. Because of that I'd be very wary of the necks too, but maybe they are better than the bodies. The dimensions might not match other quality parts. I would choose Allparts (also made in Japan) or Warmoth (US as far as I know). Regards, Charlie

I bought a rosewood board Mighty Mite neck for my home built Strat and I'm happy with it though I don't have the real thing to compare it to. They are advertised as being Fender licensed and therefore dimensionally accurate. The only thing I had to do was to tidy up the fret ends as they could have been smoother - maybe the fingerboard had shrunk slightly.
The guitar has an Eden body which was OK but I did have to modify the neck pocket as it came square ended and did not fit the neck. I suspect that the body is a few mm off the genuine Strat in a few other areas too. I also had an Eden neck which was awful - the tuner holes were spaced at odd centres and out of line.
Mine has Wilkinson hardware that I'm happy with

Hi A friend of mine has a Brandoni neck. They look pretty good and are not over priced. I browsed at the Brandoni ware house [in Wembley, London] a couple of years ago and they supply bodies and necks all at different levels of quality and finish. Plus they supply all the hard ware as well. In fact they sell Strat and Tele guitar kits to build yourself. You can select Alder, Ash and birds eye maple if you so wish. Peter

After winning a Mighty Mite birdseye maple neck on 'ththe well known auction site' I was badly let down by 'newmetalshop music'. They initially sent an e-mail stating that the neck had been shipped, then the next day e-mailed saying the neck had been damaged during packaging and they could not supply. Maybe I'm overly suspicious, but I wondered if when packing it, they realised just how beautifully figured it was and decided not to sell. So that's the end of that seller for me. I've since read a bit about Musikraft necks from Jamerson Guitars. Is anyone able to share experiences of this brand? Cheers, JB

Hi JB
That's very disappointing. I trust you will leave feedback that reflects this. It will be interesting to see if it appears for sale again. I have no experience of Musikraft but they look nice!

Hi JB, I purchased a body/neck set by Musikraft in August this year, they do a range of ready mades at,lets call it a base price, you can add from this base whatever you wish at add cost.. I have a one piece swamp ash strat body with a nice grain pattern for clear finishing, the whitest wood I have ever seen, and a qtr sawn maple neck with ebony board, rolled edges and abelone dots.... The body is supplied unsealed, the neck shellac sealed, the body weight is 3lb,all dimensions are for standard american strat parts.........the cost £300 as supplied. When it arrived from the States, took 2 weeks,it was opened by my assistant the day after arrival, she called me out of the workshop to the office with"come and have a look at the parts that came yesterday",fearing the worst, she had unpacked the items and laid them on the reception table, what I was looking at can only be described as a work of art..... I have built 5 Strat types this year from parts by various luthiers, the Musikraft kit is from another world,I plan to keep this one, with custom shop fittings and will post pics around March 2010.................Alan J

It's me again! Have just been successful on 'ththe well known auction site' and now own (or will when it arrives) a vintage rockmaple Strat neck by Musikraft. I'm wondering if there is a means of finishing the neck by hand - as opposed to spraying. It has been sealed with shellac. Any chance Danish oil might suffice. As usual, any thoughts and experiences much appreciated. Cheers, JB

Here is a Mighty Mite neck bought for $89 on the well known auction site from Gman.Music in 2008 : No delivery problems. The Fender decal is an add-on, not supplied with the neck. Didier

Any chance Danish oil might suffice. As usual, any thoughts and experiences much appreciated. Cheers, JB Hi JB, Danish oil or tung oil give a lovely "smooth" finish and bring out the best in the wood grain, but can take several weeks to harden off enough. Probably the most durable finish would be nitro cellulose laquer. I have put a link below to a supplier of spray can nitro, if you shop around you should be able to get it a little cheaper. www.manchesterguitartech.co.uk/lacquer.htmlKind regards, grip
