Hi Charlie, I initially registered and currently view the site on my office computer during the day and I now want to enter the site at home. Can I re-register or do I have to use my same log-in details? If I do then I can't remember them. How do I obtain this info? Rgds - Clive

Hi Clive, There shouldn't be any reason to re-register. Have a look back through your old emails, when you register with a Proboards site you get an email with your user name and password details on. If you can't find that, then just try to log in without password and as long as you have the same email address you registered with, you get the opportunity to re-enter a new password after you receive an email. If you are logging in at work or internet cafe's etc. you really should log out every time, anyone that uses your PC at work or that has been looking over your shoulder in public internet access sites can just enter the site and post anything in your name . Kind regards, grip

Hi Clive, I think grip has answered your question better than I could have. If you have forgotten your password, I think you can apply for a new one. If you can't remember your log in name, I will send it to you by PM. Regards, Charlie

Hi grip, That can be true, but the displayed name (that other members see) can be different. Regards, Charlie

Hi Grip and Charlie, This brings an interesting point. I advise all members to change the name that is displayed so that it is not the same as their login name.

Hi Bill, Perhaps so, but we still need to know who our regulars are. No easy solution I guess. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, Hi Bill,
Sorry if I gave misleading info here, I've only used vBulletin before here, and a change to a user name (= displayed name) could only be carried out by an administrator of the board (or moderators if the permissions were set up that way).
What are the merits of a different display name (although I just changed mine to see what happens) when we have passwords?
Kind regards,
grip

Hi grip, I'm not really sure of the benefits of changing a user name, except that if it is unknown (except to yourself and staff) it would make it a little harder for someone to guess your user name as well as your password. Probably it would be difficult enough anyway, I haven't heard of anyone cracking someone else's account here. Let's just say for the moment that it would be best for any member to not make a habit of revealing whether their user name is the same as or different to their displayed name. Regards, Charlie

Hi Clive, I only see one instance of your email address in the member list. Are you sure you re-registered? If so, Bill probably approved your application. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie and Clive, Ah, I think I did approve Clive's new application although I didn't twig that it was a duplication. He is now here as clive and clivea.
Was the idea that you no longer want to use your office email address, Clive? As long as you still have access to your office email address you can login as your previous registration and change the email address. If you do that an email will be sent to your office address hence the need to still have access.
If you no longer have access to the office address then I think we will have to leave you with two registrations.

Hi Bill, sorry for delay. Yes, I still need access from my office desk comp. I just thought that to register as new from home was easiest. Does this present any probs to you? Incidentally, does the message indication at the top of this page (Hey Clive, you have ......) refer to personal messages only? Do I have to search the individual threads to see if anyone has placed anything further? I hope you understand what I'm asking. Best rgds - Clive

Hi Clive, In this case it is better for you to have 2 separate mermbership accounts. We'll leave it as it is. If we delete one of your accounts your messages for that account will appear as a guest. The messages at the top of the screen that you see can only be seen by you and answered by you. Same for any other member, they will only see anything applicable to them individually. Members can send a PM to any member they want. Regards, Charlie

Hi Clive, To add to Charlie's answer, that 'Hey Clive...' message only refers to PMs.
If you want to keep track of replies to your messages there are two things you can do.
(1) If you click on profile in the menu at the top of a page there is a list of your own posts and you can use that to quickly find them and then look to see if there are any replies.
(2) When you open a thread (a topic) you can bookmark it by clicking on 'bookmark' on the left of the header.
That allows you to click on profile in the menu at the top of the page and then bookmarks to get a list of the threads you are interested in.
If you have bookmarked a thread, when you go into the list of your bookmarks (as above) you have the option to click 'manage bookmarks' in there you can choose to get a PM (personal message) or an email notification whenever anyone posts to that thread.
If you go into your profile before you have bookmarked any threads then you can click on profile at the top of a page, then bookmarks, then 'click here to manage your bookmarks preferences' and in there you can set whether you want PM or email notification.
I hope that answers your question.
