Hi Clive / Andy / Phil and Charlie: The happy days are finished...now it's time to pay the bills....so much champagne and beer!!!!! Thanks for you too. This year it will note 10.... to combine with 2010!!!! Phill: Well I hope that Brazil team in South Africa could be do the job better than Manchester United yesterday in UK Cup!!!! I think that in this time, the British team it's very very stronger than in 2006 (even with almost the same people....). Fabio Capello can do this very well...... Andy: How do you speak Portuguese?? Cheers from Brazil Roberto

Roberto
AndyGp must be a Porto or Benfica or Sporting Lisbon fan - still we won't hold that against him!!!! Perhaps he might tell us!! Does the GP stand for "Grand Prix"??!!
Our newspapers are saying England will have had a successful World Cup if we get to the semi-finals - perhaps if injuries can be avoided who knows!! Like you in Brazil, there is a lot of expectation for the national team to always do well. In Brazil's case though, the expectation is a bit more realistic!! The Man Utd result was a big turn-up here. Although I, and many others, do not hold fond memories of Leeds Utd, they did play well and the current Leeds team do deserve praise for this result. They should get promoted as well. My team, Nottingham Forest, are doing very well at present and there is optimistic talk of promotion back to the Premier League.
Regards Phil

Is that the "not so very special anymore" Jose Mourinho who used to manage Porto? Pleased that you are inter football though!
Cheers Phil
Roberto, sorry for hijacking your thread!!

Yes, that's him. Interesting that you mention Porto but not Chelsea... was that done on purpose? And... I m sure that Roberto is not upset for the little hijacking: he too must love football and my only doubt is: Sao Paulo, Corinthians or Palmeiras? ;D

Good question. Over to you Roberto!!
Chelsea was too obvious and I was perhaps feeling a little too pleased with myself coming up with the "inter" pun!!!
To get back to guitars etc, I have an olympic white USA standard strat and my main units are a Magicstomp, a Zoom RFX 2000 and Gemini III. I now play these all though the computer sound card and directly out to a speaker I cannibalised from one of my amps.

Phil, I am glad to know that you have an Olympic White American Standard, because I am about to buy one; right now I have a Classic '50 MIM Daphne Blue and have already replaced the pickups with Kinmans Traditional MK II and the bridge with a Callaham Vintage, but cannot get over the neck problem. The fact is that I don't like the action of its vintage-style neck, but didn't realize the nature of the problem until one month ago, when I tried the American Standard and just fell in love with the action. Since you already own one, I would like to know your opinion about the pickups and if you think that it's worthwhile replacing them with the Fralins Vintage Hot. I know that Roberto uses them already; I listened to the songs he posted on YouTube and have to say that the sound is just beautiful. I know that he is also using one of the new Vox AC15 (the hand-wired ones), but to me the Fralins have a great part in that sound and, in an effort to steer this topic towards the original poster, would really like that Roberto could comment about the relative merits of the different links of the chain (pickups, bridge, amplifier, etc) in his overall sound.

Andy When I read your last post above, I went back to the MIM v USA thread at charliehall.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3268where we both have posted comments. From my comments you will see that I was not a great lover of the MIM neck and for a time replaced it with my USA maple neck before changing it back again and getting shut of the MIM. For the price, the MIM was fine and if I had bought it before knowing how much more I liked the USA, I would probably have been quite content with it. Recently I replaced the pick-ups on my USA with 57/62s see link; charliehall.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=technical&action=display&thread=2872&page=1and I have been very pleased with them. I am not au fait with the sound produced by the other type of pick-ups that members refer to so I will be sticking to the 57/62s for the foreseeable future. I know you can hear samples of the other pick-ups but the sound you hear is pretty much dependant on the sound card quality of your PC. My USA strat is a 2008 model and has the 2-point trem system and I have to say I did prefer the 6-screw vintage on the MIM. I had another go at re-setting up my 2-point up but still prefer the response of the vintage on the MIM. It's interesting reading what you have added to yours. I did have a bit of a problem aligning my USA neck on the MIM and although I did it eventually, I was never 100% satisfied with the result. Have you considered putting another size neck on your MIM as it would seem to be a pity to change with having done so much to it? Phil PS Hopefully Roberto will chip in with his comments which I know I would certainly welcome.

Hi Phil and Andy: Phil: Not problem my friend..... Football is always a nice theme to discuss too...... But as you and Andy was talking about Mourinho and Porto or Chelsea....I keep in silence here... Hey...And for talking in Mourinho....Did you see him smiling? And also Fabio Capello. ? Someone told me that football it's a serious business....According his faces, it's more than serious.....!!!! ;D ;D Andy: I'm 200% Sao Paulo Football Club....The best of the best!!! Backing to the music and guitars.....As I always play rhythmic guitar (just only three years ago that I upgraded myself to lead trainner.....and now maybe I was a 60% lead guitar.... ) So I don't have much experience with great number of guitar models and mainly with bridge and pups... But now as more lead dedicated I had need pay more attention with some technical items in guitar, as pups, strings, bridge and tremolo...(When I played rhythmic I was happy and I didn't know..... : ) Now I have only 2 guitars. One Fender Crafter in Japan with Lace Sensor and my new one a Custom Model made with 100% Callaham hardware (and Lindy Fralin pups are the Callaham standard). Both sound great...but the new one with Lindy Fralin sounds better with a cleaner sound (isn't active pups as Lace....) with a sound very defined and more vintage. A sound from 60"s.... In fact now I'm using just only the new one.... Although a determinate sound quality is a sum of a lot of variables, I really enjoy these my new pups..and it have a good contribution on my final sound ............. with also my Vox Heritage amp... Cheers from Brazil Roberto

Phil, yes, now I remember you commenting on your MIM Strat and the difference with the MIA. The other thread (about the pickups) was new to me and I found it very informative: thanks for the link! I am glad that you are happy with the 57/62, because from what I have read they are really good. Speaking of the neck, I have considered replacing it, but the cost of a good Fender neck (about 450 $) really puts me off, especially because there is always the risk of a mis-alignement, like you experienced, so I think that in the end I will keep the Classic '50 and just buy the American Standard. My wife, who also plays the guitar, likes the 7.25" neck and so I guess that we could put up a duo... ;D Beto, so you are a Sao Paulo supporter, eh? There are rumors that Hernanes could come to Inter Milan and, of course, who can forget Kakà? But, speaking of guitars, I agree with what you wrote. Did you buy the Fralins from Bill Callaham? I know that he sells custom pickups, wound to his specifications; he also writes about a cryogenic treatment of all the electric parts, but I wonder if this really makes a difference in sound. I know, from other threads, of your desire to exactly replicate the sound of Hank, but I think that you are already on the good path, pursuing "your" own sound. The song I like most, among the ones on YouTube, is "My way" (not a Hank cover, I think) and there you just play, without worrying about being Hank or anyone else and I love the way you play and also your sound: that first note (the open A) is pure heaven: that's the sound I am after and hope that the Fralins will deliver it. Um abraço Andy

Hi Andy:
Certainly Sao Paulo FC has intention to sell Hernanes and maybe Miranda.I'm not so fan of Hernanes football.... and I think that he could not be a success in European football. But maybe in Milan (that has a very Brazilian play style....and a lot of Brazilian players.....) could be good for him...
Changing of theme, you're right that each one needs to find his own sound. I think that I also had find that mine and I'm glad to know that you liked my sound My Way (Youtube video) and others. Sometimes I want to study (that's call for help!!!) the tone of some tune with a greater tone difficult as Find Me a Golden, Sleepwalk, etc
Cheers from Brazil and "abraços" Roberto
