Due to the non tolerence of remarks not even amounting to reasonable criticism exhibited by a player who is not a member of this forum: I am restricting the posting of links to sound and video files to the member or members that played on them, or to allow in special cases where it has been pre-arranged to allow another member to post links to sound or video files on behalf of the member or members who played on them. Exceptions will be made for links to some players (usually famous ones but not necessarily so) who are unlikely to see comments from this site. This directly affects any sound or video file by Phil Kelly, who could not be bothered to join the site to comment. Any person wishing to comment to another member on this site will have to join the site to make such comment or relay it elsewhere. Relaying of personal messages will not be allowed on this site. I will be adding the above to the site rules shortly. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie I agree with what you are doing, as you may know a lot of sites and forums only let you post or comment only by being a member, maybe the verification process needs to be altered. Take care John H

Hi John, I don't think the verification process can or needs to be altered, the problem arose because a member innocently posted comments from a non member. The new rules are to prevent this happening again. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
I totally agree with your restriction, I was quite sad to see how that particular thread had developed, it was not in-keeping with the spirit of the board. I can only think that there was a hidden agenda when it was posted.
I take it that the restrictions won't apply to a "collaborated" tune where only 1 party of the "collaboration" posts it.
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Chris, Thanks. I don't know about an agenda, it is possible I suppose. Things certainly happened a bit quicker than I would have expected if there were not one but news can travel fast. The new restrictions do not stop a member from posting collaborations. Regards, Charlie

Surely one posts on Youtube for Recognition and can hardly complain when that happens ! Its in the public domain and access for all so my view is "if you dont want it to be seen - don't post it". Often we see youtube postings that are of interest to others (performances, playing tips, jokes etc). It will be sad that these links cant be passed on. I believe the link in question was a "Hijacked" youtube posting making a mockery of what the Player was intending to do by in the first instance putting a stupid track over the top and then what was possibly the original recording over the top. All he had to do to stop it was pull his file off Youtube. However I do understand why you feel it is necessary to restrict to Players or 'Sponsored 'postings - it will eliminate the problem. cheers Ian

Hi Ian, It wasn't a YouTube video, it was a sound file on 4shared. However, I think the same thing would have happened if it had been a YouTube video. I don't understand what you are saying about a hijacked file with tracks over the top. The file in question was of Phil Kelly playing The Breeze And I. I don't know whether the backing was the original Shadows track minus Hank, or a proper backing track. I suppose I could have instead made the rule never to post anything by certain people but I don't think that's the right thing to do. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie I think I was reading too much between the lines. There had been (elsewhere) a huge ruck about a youtube file to which a member had pointed to the link. It was of another member playing guitar and the sound on that youtube file had been hijacked and changed. I assumed it was that - I didnt read the Header post well enough - sorry for the confusion, Charlie. cheers Ian

Hi Charlie, Ian, The U-tube file that Ian refers to was one of mine. It was of me playing The Savage. I won't bore you with all the details, but suffice to say my U-tube account has been hacked into somehow and the sound track replaced with something else. Apparently there has been a lot of this and also complete videos being replaced with images of script containing very bad language etc. U-tube are well aware of this and say they are doing all they can to stop it, but quite honestly I don't think they will eradicate it all together. A word of caution though to everyone who has U-tube vids posted to keep an eye and an ear on them from time to time. Jim

Hi Jim, Thanks, I guess such a large organisation such as YouTube will always have problems like this. Regards, Charlie

I have spoken with Phil Kelly and sorted out the issues between us. Everything is OK but the rules can stay as they are for now, as it could happen again with anyone. Regards, Charlie
