Hi folks,
I'm looking to buy a wah wah pedal and want a bit of advice as to which ones are best to consider for Shads music. I've heard that the Vox V847 is not bad at the price, but I've never used one so don't really know. Can someone tell me where I can hear one being used on the sound file section on the proboard so that I can hear the quality. I would appreciate any advice asap.

Hi Clive, May I suggest that you do not want or need a wah wah pedal for Shadows music. A volume pedal is all you need for Hank's later violin type swell sounds. A DeArmond Tone and volume pedal was used on some of the later 60s tracks but these are hard to find and they do reduce the output from the guitar. This is a totally different effect to a wah wah effect, although untrained ears may mistake one for the other. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie -
I think that you may be right about my 'untrained' ears. Does Hank then use a volume pedal on 'Cavatina'? Which model do you recommend?

Hi Clive, Hank has always used a volume pedal on Cavatina and other tunes. He used a Morley (I don't know which model) and then later a Boss FV-300H. The FV-300H is no longer available and was replaced by Boss with the FV-500H. Note that there are also L versions of these models. L and H mean Low and High impedance respectively. You want the H version. Regards, Charlie
