Hello, I used to have D'Addario EXL145 12-54s and I must say they were very good acutally except they were extremely heavy. Recently, I've come across these: store.daddario.com/category/145806/EPN115_BluesJazz_Rock_11-48D'Addario say the sound of the 50s and 60s etc. Anyone's had a go at those strings? regards, Piotrek

Hi Piotrek I use D'Addario strings quite a lot. The ones that I have at the moment are 11 - 49s but they are EXL115s (Bright Round Wound Blues/Jazz Rock) in a pack of 3. They are a little different to the ones on the website you provided the link for. The three bass strings are slightly lighter than those (28, 38 and 49). I find the ones I use to be quite good. The link for them is: store.daddario.com/category/145800/EXL115_BluesJazz_Rock_11-49They seem to last a long time. I did get a pack once with a faulty 4th. string (shrivelled and useless) though. I know Eric Johnson, known for his great tone, uses nickel strings and wouldn't use any other because of their superior magnetic properties. I would have to stay away from the heavier ones because of tendon problems. Regards Len

Hello Len,
Thank you for the information.
Hello Gary,
Did you compare these EPN strings to the 'regular' EXLs? I assume the EPNs are just like EXLs only with more nickel, right?
regards, Piotrek

Hi Piotrek..Yes I did compare both sets...As the first 3 strings are exactly the same..the only real benefit is less tension on the other 3 strings for fluidity..slightly warmer but not a big difference.I too changed from 12-56 to 11s but i changed the G to a wound .18 or .19 I found this set to be better than EPNs www.thomann.de/ie/ernie_ball_eb2250.htm?sid=ad104d57d2b9b7311d1120fbfc5a2a33

Hello Gary,
Many thanks for that. I will be changing strings in my guitar very soon so this time I'm going for nickel ones.
regards, Piotrek
