Hi Peter, Have a look at Beyerdynamic's DT100's at www.Studiospares.com they are recognised throughout the music industry as probably the best you can get, every studio I've ever been in has them. Regards, Bob.

the Beyer DT 100's are indeed used in many studios. But there are better. The Beyer DT 770 pro closed back back are great for monitoring especilly for recording acoustically as they minimise the spill from open back H/phones. If keeping noise out while monitoring is important the HD 25 series will certainly do the job, my old pair now need new ear seals after much use, and are used by DJ's in noisy club's.
The holy grail of which I am shortly going to buy, are the Senheisser HD 650's (£250:00 approx) but if your pockets are really deep then the just released Senheisser HD 800 series starting around £900-1000 may well be worth a punt.

I found the midrange lacking with the DT100. I was lent a set for when I was mastering the band's CD but found that they were causing me to make errors in the EQ and mixing. Regards, Charlie

Hi Guys I use Audio Technica ATH-M30 monitor headphones. They do the job for me spot on. Always liked Audio Technica anyway. Tried phones that where alot more money. Stuck with those. Cheers George

...every studio I've ever been in has them. True, they are probably the most used cans for foldback purposes. That's because they are relatively cheap, virtually indestructible and you can get spares for them. However, as a standard for quality audio, they're not really in the running. It's not easy to suggest models you could try, individual requirements vary a lot and a budget figure would have helped, but if you are looking for isolation, the you need closed back cans and would personally favour the Sennheiser HD280 Pro. Expect to pay from $75 upwards street price.

HI ALL ,I have a set of sennheiser HD215's & they seem ok & a reasonable price here in OZ ,I tried several more expensive types at the store but liked the 215's the best & I got a very good mid-year stock-take discount.. I paid $98.00 OZ ..instead of $150.00.. MY only gripe with them is the dreded ''curly-cord'' THEY are a popular head set with DJ's down-here I believe...& they are closed back!!!,but you can open one-side!! But I also have a set of TDK-hard-shell [they are very cheap but surprisingly good] CHEERS ALL .................barry..

I bought a Sennheiser HD201 closed back pair (with a straight lead, Barry!) and am very happy with these, since they have an excellent deep bass response, good mids and highs. My brother-in-law has a Bose pair that were silly money and when he tried mine he looked a bit peeved - particularly when a google search showed mine to be around £12 to £17, which is ridiculously cheap for what seems an excellent product. Cheers, Martyn

Another vote for the Beyer DT770 Pro Phones.
I know they are not exactly cheap but I have heard good reports about Behringer Phones, maybe you would like to give those a look.

I like Sennheiser 'phones but have the eternal problem of what to do with the wires ?
I've tried some wireless 'phones a while ago but found them to be heavy & a pain with the extra clutter needed with thransmitters etc..
I suppose the ideal would be an "in ear" type with some sort of cable management system to perhaps a "box" on the guitar & then to the audio/effects/amp etc....
Sounds like a mission for A/Barry with his factory sized workshop & tools ;D ;D
Cheers
Dick
