Hi Chaps and Ladies. I have been saying that I play and don't fiddle and that's true. However, I came across these expensive beasts, £2,500 worth and I must admit there is a certain fascination in owning one. I have played the on line demo and they seem to sound amazing. Can't afford it yet mind you !! www.echomatic.co.uk/ Makes paying top dollar for a Q20 or Magic Stomp look cheap. Happy with my EFTP setup but, The echomatic just fascinated me especially with option of a customized front plate. ;D Anyone know much about them.? Charlie ? Cheers all George

Hi George, I haven't tried an ESE. I have heard recordings done by Dave Robinson and Rockin Scott using an ESE and Scott's seemed to sound better. Regards, Charlie

Only one small problem George. They don't make the Echomatics anymore. Production ceased some while ago due to the unavailability of suitable components I believe.

Thanks for the replies Charlie Jim and Scott. Scott. As you will see Jim says they dont make them anymore? and Charlie hasn't tried one. I just came across the Echomatics and just wondered about them. Don't think I would pay that sort of money anyway even if I was flush. But I might, when I get a bee in my bonnett I tend to make things happen !! I understand from Charlie that you either have one or have played through one. How do they stack up against say a Quad with EFTP or other gear that is programable. I have a quad one and it doesn't do EFPT but I also have a Zoom G2 1u that I got the patches for and it sounds very good to me. All the best George

Hi George
Thats right i have the IVR (4 head) ive had it since oct 03 and its only on its second tape.
Charlie has done fantastic work with eftp. I have a MS and a quad gt still, i also had a rfx. But there is something missing from the digi units that is there instantly with the tape echoes which is what lead Spike and co on to develop the TVS. As for the price the units are hand built and the components are expensive i heard someone mention on one of the sites that the heads where in the region off £100 but i may be wrong. But for me it was worth every penney. Im after a q2 to replace the gt as its rather old and the q2 is superior in my opinion.

Hi
Until last week when I sold it, I had an Echomatic 1VR and I was always very pleased with it. It had a much warmer sound than the digital units and it was a lovely piece of engineering but the drawback was that, being analogue, there are no presets so you have to do a lot of knob twiddling and button pushing to get the desired echo. OK when you're at home or in a studio but not good for live work.
I believe one of our members here has just bought the very last new Echomatic 6 so perhaps he'd let us have his views after he's had chance to evaluate it.
Cheers.
Tony

Thanks for the info Scott. I agree that Charlie has done truly great work with EFTP. When he told that all he wanted was £15.00 for the patches for a G2 1u I was amazed and went for it straight away !! Dont tell him that. ;D I have had the chance to buy a watkins copicat. They come up from time to time. Any Good I believe they are transistor. rather than valve. ?? Whats the crack with the TVS equipment. are they tape echo units similar to the Echomatics. ? I have heard others say that the tape units have a sound of their own. Funny enough I still record to a Yamaha 4 track high speed tape porta studio with DBX. Something about the sound I prefer over digital and its hard to pin point or even explain but I love it. Just had it done up by a repair shop by an old boy that does replairs to TV and audio and he has made a terrific job of it. some of the switches where playing up George.

Hi George, The Copicats with 3 playback heads (most were) are not suitable for Shadows sounds. Valve and transistor models were made. The TVS3 is not tape but probably comes closest to the sound of tape. Regards, Charlie
