Hi John, This is easy for some and not others. If you play chords it is easier. It is done by working out the chords that are being played and then deriving the key from that. If you have trouble with one in particular you can send it to me and I will work it out for you. Regards, Charlie

Charlie Thats interesting info and I will try to work some out for myself. I usually cheet and find a tab or Guitar Pro file on ultimate guitar and get the key from there. I like your idea and intend to try it. many thanks George.

Hi there John. It is correct what Carlie writes. One more thing you can try, is to find out the ending chord of the tune. It nearly always is the root chord = key. When it isn't, you will be left with a feeling that the tune is not completed when it ends. One tune that came up in my mind that is like that is, Find Me A Golden Street with The Shadows, key is C but it ends on A-minor. And to you George, why be condescending to guys that wants your help Kind Regards, 26rednef

Hi Another thing to try if its still difficult to locate the chords or ending is to go for something like the "amazing slow downer" available from www.ronimusic.com/You can slow stuff down without changing the pitch. Makes things much easier to work out especially tricky runs. You can slow down MP3's or CD's even, without changing pitch. I found it very handy. Good luck George

Good luck George Hi George, Thanks for the link to The Amazing Slow Downer. That is a nice piece of software, and the great thing is there are versions for both Windows and Apple platforms. I have been fiddling around with the trial version today and decided to buy it. I had been using Riffmaster Pro (http://riffmasterpro.com), which is okay, but only runs on Windows. All my music files are on my Apple laptop, and so this is much better for me. Thanks again! Cheers, James

Hi James
Glad you like the Amazing slowdowner. I find it great for working stuff out and have had it for a while now. Thanks for telling me about riffmaster I am having a look at it. I will stick with the Amazing S D but they do a 10 day free trial so it wont hurt to try it out. To see if there are any differences other than y the one you mentioned. All the best and Good Luck George

Hi John Charlie and Red both gave you good advice too. The software e.g. The Amazing Slow Downer was just another angle for you to try if their suggestions don't work for you every time. What Red suggested is good, I take that route myself. Charlie's idea I am trying out for me. Had not thought of it. We all muck in together. Best way. Good luck and come back if you need to. All the best George.
