Hello I have always wondered whether to use the device in line or to connect up via the effects loop as the unit is stereo (I checked with the Zoom Tech Guys in the UK) I have been using it via the effects loop as my amp is a stereo marshall 2 x 12 combo. I have EFTP and I believe Charlie once told me that the echo's are mono. However the device has other stereo effects like the chorus or super chorus and ping pong delay etc. I have a footswitch and can bypass the Zoom then kick in other stomp boxes in line such as The RAT, Jim Dunlop Cry Baby and Boss Compressor. I can also kick it other effects as the amp has DFX on board activated via a footswitch. The reverb is a bit of a pain as its either off or on via the amp reverb knob. So if bypass the Zoom then "No Reverb at all" as I turn it to zero when the Zoom is in use. Might get a reverb pedal to kick in for speed of execution. I tend to just use the G2 1u for 60's sounds most of which are EFTP. Any thoughts just fishing for views advice etc. Anything I have missed ? I know I keep saying that I dont fiddle, but you have to sometimes. ;D ;D Charlie? Many thanks all. George.

Hi George, I don't think you have missed anything unless I also have. The G2 is designed for direct connection from a guitar and therefore the signal level of guitars. If the effects loop doesn't overload the input it should be fine. Regards, Charlie

Many thanks for that Charlie, I am not sure it is overloading the input by using the effects loop. It sound OK but a bit warm. I think I will revert to direct connect. As the output on th G21u is Stereo is it possible to go from there into the effects loop stereo return using the Y cable or is that ridiculous. ? I may also try use the Y cable to connect two amps. A peavey and a Marshall. Cheers George

Hi George, I don't think connecting the guitar to the G2 and then the G2 to the effects return will work too well because it will bypass the whole amp's preamp and there will be no control for volume and additional tonal variations. It shouldn't harm anything to try it though. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie Appreciate the advice. I will just use it in a conventional way. Otherwise its too much fiddling and not enough playing. Sounds great anyway. I will however try it through two amps. Am I right in saying that effects loops are more for rack mount gear like the quadraverb one I have with controls for input and output.? Many thanks once again. George. .

Hi George, Effects loops usually run at higher signal voltage levels than typical voltage levels from guitar pickups. Since pedals are usually designed to work best with guitar signals, they might overload in an effects loop. Some effects loop can be adjusted to suit various signal levels. Typical effects loops are usually designed to work best with the signal levels that studio rack gear was designed for. Regards, Charlie

Charlie Many thanks once again. I shall follow your advice. I am using the Zoom through two amps so getting stereo that way, sounds brilliant. Thats for live. For recording I am going into two channels on the mixer and panning slightly left and right of centre for a stereo sound. Its an analogue yamaha MT4x 4 track tape machine. I can create digital by goiing from the master tape through an external sound card via rca cables, the card came with software than auto levels and creates a high quality wav file.was desinged to copy records and tapes to computer. I use it this way. Sounds OK for my purposes !! Cheers George.
