Hi All, Here is my version of Cliff's I'm willing to learn. I'm interested to know what you all think, especially the lead guitar sound as I am testing my Vox Long Tom, which was serviced and modified last year by Paul Rossiter here in Australia. www.4shared.com/audio/AU4OHVRY/Im_willing_to_learn_Robbie.htmlI hope you like this. Regards, Robby

Hi Robby,
A nice sound from your set up and the echo from the long tom works well with this number. Well played, I enjoyed listening to it.
Kind regards,
Chris

Hi Robby, Unable to play your file but will keep trying. I am getting an error #2032 every time and adverts not appearing and instead saying the connection timed out, not sure if that is to do with me refusing to allow 4shared to use more space on my computer but have had no problems with other files posted on 4shared. Regards, Charlie

Thanks for letting me know Charlie and Graham. For some reason I don't have that problem from my computer...strange ! I don't know what to do. But in the meantime I uploaded the lower quality file of the tune through this website. What do you think? Thanks again for your interest. Regards, Robby Attachments:

Hi Scott,
Sorry for the late reply. I didn't realise someone is still commenting on this thread. Thanks so much for listening.
The mods are basically an attempt to emulate Ronnie Gustafsson's (1961) echo patterns and some meazzi Echomatic 2 patterns (although they're not 100% spot on). So now I am able to alter the volume of heads 5 and 6. And select feedback from heads 5 and 6. Heads 1 and 2 are also switchable. Rotary switch and small toggles are installed on the tape deck to perform those combination.
For Amp..I use Vox Tonelab AC15tb simulation. I know it's Not the correct amp used by the Shads, but believe it or not, it's the closest to my ears anyway.
And a fender Strat of course!
I hope this helps Scott.
Regards,
Robby

I really like your choice of tracks to do and this is no exception. Great sound and very enjoyable. I too used to have a Long Tom many years ago in between copycats. Great stuff. Tony

Hi Tony, Yes Ido still have the ESE. Soundwise the Vox gives you deeper echo/reverb with some kind of natural compression, thus it gives you a distinctive singing quality on the overall sound. Just like a Meazzi, I believe the have the same wiring. The Vox is not as quiet as the ESE though. ESE is a fantastic echo machine with a lot of flexibilities, the fact that all heads are selectable both for repeats and feedback (mine is a six heads version). On top of that, the motor is varispeed. And it's very quiet! here's a little clip of Mexican Bodega that I recorded sometime ago using ESE www.4shared.com/audio/JvNYYdf7/Mexican_Bodega_Robbie.htmlThere you go Tony, that's my opinion anyway. Hope this helps! Thanks and Regards, Robby Thanks so much Specky for listening! Regards, Robby

Hi Robby, Thanks for the info. The soundfile has a cracking sound to it very full and shows the ESE potential admirably. Now you mention it I do remember the Long Tom and Copycats were noisy but when gigging of course it was'nt noticeable but I would imagine bedroom playing would be somewhat intrusive. Cheers Tony

Hi Robby Sorry For the late reply i hadn't noticed that you had replied Thats quiet interesting and thanks for the info. Ive only heard a long tom in close proximity once before and found it a little toppy (in a good way)and really liked it. I see you also have an ESE Echomatic I have the IVR, how do you find the 2 units compare? Thanks Scott

Hi Robby, That opening riff reminds me of something Shadowish but I can't quite think of what it is but I'm thinking 'Summer Holdiday'. I can't recall the Cliff Richard song though. I liked the tune and it represents a suitable instrumental I think. you played it well with a good tone that was right for the tune and in short, I think it was an excellent production all round. Well done. Thanks for posting it. I certainly enjoyed listening. By the way, please forgive my late response. I'm now over my obsession with Herring Road and back on the main track. I missed a few posts along the way (no pun intended though I am reminded that I did encounter a few obstacles ;D). Cheers, Len

Hi Robby, The vox has a unique sound very nice I have a vox tom and the Alesis Q20 as well. The Vox still sounds better on some tunes, and the Q20 is a versatile unit. Did you do any mods to your Long Tom to improve effects. Regards Les.

In case you haven't noticed - the original post is almost exactly 3 years old.
I haven't seen Robby around here for a very long time.
