Hello Westbury, Both my strats are fitted with VML arms, I find them superb, they make it much easier to mute the strings. There's a couple of ways that they have to be fitted IE type of trem unit, but if you make contact with VML you'll find them very helpfull in explaining this to you.
Regds, Bob.

Hi, You could try this link. It's a USA site that sells a cheaper alternative to the Easymute called the Custom EZ Trem. Same thing but a bit cheaper. I bought one from this site and I live in Queensland, Australia. Arrived very quickly. Does the job the same as the Easymute. I recommend the 51/4" length arm for playing Shadows stuff. I am very happy with mine. The link is: www.stratcat.biz/ez-trem.shtml Regards, Scott

Hi Scott The Stratcat is good for the price...but having compared the angle with the Easymute.. I would say that the angle they have given to the curve..is way too much for my taste..but aside from that it seems to do the job Sheendigs

I will take a photo of mine and post on here. If I can find where I put my digital camera... Regards, Scott

Hi, Everyone, Sorry about taking so long to get around to this, but I have finally posted a photo of my Stratcat EZ Trem tremolo arm, available from this site: www.stratcat.biz/ez-trem.shtmlThe arm is the 5 1/4" length which is perfect for me. Would not go back to the original Fender arm. Please let me know what you think. Regards, Scott Attachments:

...easymute tremelo arm...also see BORITZ you have bought one and as am i Victoria Australia like you maybe you could tell me how to go about it... G'day, Sorry for the very late reply - I only read your post today. I purchased an Easy-Mute from Ian St John White in January 2010. He gave excellent response to email queries, great service and delivery. www.easymute.freeserve.co.uk/index.htmlJust email Ian from the links on that website. Be sure to confirm with Ian whether you require USA (Imperial) thread or MIM/MIJ (metric) thread. I used PayPal to pay for it and it took 8 or 9 days to arrive. I'm still happy with it. I bought the 130mm long arm with deluxe knob (about 25mm shorter than the standard Fender arm). Regards, Dave.

Has anyone bent their existing arm to the easymute shape?
I'm looking at mine, and thinking of cranking it for about 4cms. from the 90º bend. This would also put the tip more or less on the middle pick up, which is where I would prefer it to be, rather than between the neck and middle pickups where it is now.
I'm thinking of padding it, then putting it in a vice and bending it to the required shape. I suppose it's best done cold, as heating it up will discolour the chrome.
Wotcha think? James.

I think you're either very mad or very brave ;D But i suppose if it fractures, they're reasonably cheap to replace; so get that sucker in the vice... ;D

Hi James I have bent several arms - mostly minor adjustments to get the right height/angle/holding position, but also a couple of easymute-type bends. The results depends on the material, chrome finish can be problematic and stainless steel no problem. For a easymute bend I think you'd have to have SS - and the bend is difficult to get sharp and precise (like the real thing) just using a vice. Of the ones I've done one came out fine - the other not, and you only have one shot.
Have you tried a easymute (?), some find it a nice improvement others not much difference. If you just want to mod the lenght for a better holding/picking position it's much easier just to cut the length. Alternatively get another arm - several sources to choose from, ie our resident member Celtrocka can make you any arm you want.
On the other hand you seem to be skilled with tools, so why don't you give it a try - if you are not satisfied with the result get a replacement then. 4 cm from the 90 dgrs bend sound like a lot, easymute is no more than 2 cm. I can shoot a few close-ups if you need it (the real thing).

Hi James I bought a couple of spare arms from AllParts for under a fiver each just in case!!! I managed to bend it without much of a problem. I clamped it in a vice with a piece of 10mm rod to give a smooth bend and used an adjustable spanner to do the bending. No damage to the chrome on the outside of the bend and just a small indent on the inside where the spanner jaws clamped the arm. This has made muting a lot easier and so is the pickup change during Atlantis. I also shortened the arm by about 15mm so that it is now 130mm from the bend to the tip which means that I'm plucking the strings between the neck and middle pickups. The important thing is to make sure the bend goes the right way otherwise instead of an easy-to-mute arm you'll end up with a hard-to-mute one. The finished arm. Attachments:

Thanks Erik and Tony for the useful tips.
I'll attempt to get a nice 90º bend using a pipe vice and a ring spanner.
If it all goes pearshape [sic], I'll buy a metre of 5mm SS for a few Euros and keep practising ;D
James.

HI ALL , I use 5mm stainless rod & bend-up my various arm's ,Also get rid of the thread & drill the base-plate &block to accept 5mm plastic [clear-tubing] od 9/32'' & cut a piece of the tube to reach the bottom of the drilled hole level with the trem base-plate & split one side of the tubing remove a sliver so as it can close slightly & the 5mm arm will fit nicely firm but not to firm [ie] the arm will stay where you leave-it ,,& no more THREAD-WOE'S, cost's ''bugga-all'' & will not wear-out.. Somewhere back in the thread's [messages] I have photo's & the method to use drill sizes etc etc.. OUR MATE ''BILL'' could probably find the posting? ?? for another ''Pint'' I owe him several now..& there here waiting bill at The ''Boob-Pub''.. THE Publican's ford falcon.. CHEERS ALL ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Barry..
