I am new to the shadows sound and would like to know what amplifier to buy for the shadows sound for home use only . I guess it should be a valve amp but I am not looking for volume as it is for home use / studio just quality to get that Hank tone

Hi..I have bought the blackstar HT 20 and it is great for home use,and has enough in reserve for a small venue..its very well made and will give you all the shads sounds you need, without all the vox over kill (knobs ) Cheers Colin

I have just got the new Fender Mustang, i did consider a valve amp but it's only for home use so it would be a waste. Anyway, the Mustang is a very nice amp for under £100.00. It can be plugged into your pc via a USB, this enables you to re-configure parts of the Amps built in sounds. All in all i'm really pleased with it.

Hi Tony Biker mentioned the VOX AC4 . I have the head and cabinet version and they do a combo. You wont go far wrong with this amp. Ideal for home use. I love it. Great sound George.

I have the fender mustang II and connect it to the pc for configuration. It has a really nice interface with big graphics and a community, but as yet no shadows preset. But for the money a really fantastic buy. Give it a try, but to be honest didn't realise its potential till I got it home and plug into the pc. Has an mp3 input as well (but not tried it), vox patch as well as multitap delay etc.

Thank you everyone for your help . I need this help as I need to change my gear which is a gison lucille played through a peterson amp and a digitech gnx4 . I got a yamaha magicstomp last week and need to ask Charlie for the eftp when I get the amp and Fender 57 or 62. I like the advice you ace players give on the amp . I had considered a vox lil night train Head plus cabinet ?

Hi the VOX night train is more money than the AC4 but its 15 watts and very loud. for much the same money you could get an AC15. the night train is a competitor to the Orange Tiny Terror. In my opinion the AC 15 is a bit more Shads if you are spending that money and going for 15 watts anyway. Try out an AC4 head and cabinet. It might be only 4 watts but its very loud believe me. There is also now a full range of AC4 combos : The AC4TV with a 10" speaker, The AC4TV8 with a 8" speaker, the AC4TV-Mini with a 6.5" speaker. Not sure you really need a 12" speaker for home use.

Didier is absolutely right the full range is there. I just like the head and cabinet version looks great sounds great and a bit flash. I am not an expert but I believe that the 12" speaker in the cabinet version has greater headroom for a clean sound. Its also loud enough to mic up at a small venue gig. The 4 watts is deceiving, its LOUD man. The smaller versions sound great and are cheaper. Still a good choice. Let us know what you go for. Cheers George.

I have a very old Fender Sidekick Reverb 25w (solid state) which is a great little amp if you can find one. But I have also now got a Vox AC4 with the 8" speaker I chose this model as it has the power soak switch down to 1/10 w.
I am going to get the 12" cab to go with it as I tried it using the speaker on my AC15cc1x (Alnico blue) and it sounded great although I shouldn't have done it as the impedance of the "blue" is 8ohm and the AC4 output is 16ohm but they both survived.
Mike.

The AC4 head and cabinet has a power soak switch down to 1/4 watt. But its still loud. The 1/10 w version may be better if its for home use only. Plenty of variation and choice with this great little amp series. George.

I am not an expert but I believe that the 12" speaker in the cabinet version has greater headroom for a clean sound. Generally for guitar speakers, the larger the speaker, the higher the sensivity, so for the same electrical power from the amp (4W in this case), a 12" speaker is likely to be louder than a 10", which will be likely to be louder than a 8", which will be likely to be louder than a 6.5"... The blackstar 1 amp model looks pretty good in that I can do more with the amp headphones mp3 and reverb, has anyone tried one yet ?
