As a new member I am delighted to be part of this community as I have been a HBM follower for many years. I have been reading links about the sound achieved on Atlantis when playing the melody an octave higher when the notes seem to sound as though they could last forever, and wondered if I needed a sustain pedal to emulate this effect. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Mojo Welcome to the forum. It would help if you could list the equipment you are using at present. Most members use EFTP patches programmed by Charlie and used in various effect units, to get the Shadows sound. Best regards. Neil

Hi Neil, Many thanks for the prompt reply, my equipment is Fender Mexican Strat, Fender FM65 amp and Magicstomp which I bought with Echotapper EFTP already installed, I think I will be contacting Charlie for his files in the near future. Hope this info helps. Kind regards, Maurice.

Hi Maurice. Sounds as if you have all the right equipment but not sure about Echotapper EFTP patches, not familiar with them. No doubt Charlie or other members will see your post and advise accordingly. Cheers. Neil

Hi Maurice, Welcome to the site. The sustain on Atlantis is caused by heavy compression and certainly not subtle, and sounds to me as though it was applied to the whole track. It is also quite likely that the lead guitar had compression of its own applied by the studio. Even Hank mentioned to me that there was a lot of compression on the track. I think he kind of meant there was too much compression, without actually saying so. To be honest I think it is possible to get an acceptable result without compression if the playing, guitar, echo, and amp (or amp sim) is OK. You might find the thread about amp tone controls, now sticked at the top of the technical section, interesting if you haven't seen it. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, Many thanks for your comments, I have read your article about amp tone controls and have to say it is the most comprehensive explanation I have ever seen. I have only been a member of this site for a few days but have learned more than in the last few years. Regards, Maurice.
