Hi Charlie
Is the Q2 backup battery kept in a charged state if the Q2 is permanently plugged into the mains with the switch on (mains, not the Q2 switch). I have just been looking at the invoice for my Q2 and you fitted a backup battery during Sept 99. That seems an awfully long time for a backup battery to last, and it still appears to be going strong ?

Hi Glen, I am not sure. I think it does. It certainly does with a Q20. The battery is not actually ever charged, all that happens is that the battery current is shut off when the unit is powered up. All I am not sure about is whether the front power switch has to be on too. I will try to remember to check the next time I have a Q2 apart. The battery life will also depend on the memory chips fitted. The latest ones (fitted as replacements to some units around the time you purchased yours) have a very low battery current drain. Regards, Charlie

OK, thanks Charlie. One of my big dreads is turning on the Q2 one day and finding the backup battery has failed and I've lost all your echo's Glen

Hi Glen, It could happen of course. I don't charge for re-programming a genuine unit, and my current price to change the battery is £30GBP + postage and insurance. Regards, Charlie
