hi guys,The Vox Jamvox. One of its many features (according to internet reviews) is to remove the lead guitar so one can play along with the backing track. I am very sceptical about these claims and wonder how the tracks sound with say Hank Marvin or Duane Eddy removed. Has anyone any experience with this system. Just curious as i don't think anybody has come up with a sure fire method of removing lead guitar or vocals. cheers norm

Removing the lead can be done or not depending on the sound mix. If the lead has been mixed in perfect mono (same amplitude and phase on both channels) while the backing is in real stereo, it can be extracted. It's even easier if the lead is on one channel, and the backing is on the other, as it was sometime done in the early sixties. But it will not work all of the time. In some of the Shadows recordings it can be done, but not all of them, and when it's possible the lead is not always totally removed. The Jam Vox is not the only way to do it, most audio recording softwares have such lead removal feature. On Gégé's site, all of the recordings on this page : gtabis.free.fr/Soundfiles.html ( ambiance de l'original) have been recorded by him using BTs made from original Shadows recordings after having removed Hank's lead. Just a quick "Head's Up". Currently JamVox isn't compatible with OS X 10.6.5 so watch out if you're a Mac user!

Hi, If you live anywhere near the North East then you can come and play with mine . I think its a good bit of kit for many reasons but i dint buy it to remove the lead from tunes. When i have tried to do it i have not been very happy with the results, but to be fair i have not tried all the options available.
Regards
Jeff

Thanks for your replys, i was just curious to see if it was the real McCoy .Thanks Didier for your explanation on how these things are meant to work. Jeff, thanks for your invite but i'm a bit far away for a visit like the other side of the world. By the way i'm still looking for that elusive small amp i want.
Have a great Xmas guys and keep safe. Cheers Norm.
