I think that most of us agree that the amp and effects box together with the make up of the guitar (pickups, the wood the body is made from and also perhaps the neck, strings and in some of the latest threads I've seen even the type and thickness of paint used has been suggested) all go towards "That Sound".
One thing that I've never seen suggested is Hank himself. No not the way he plays but he has always since his teens been a pretty lean character hardly an ounce of spare flesh on him. My thought is, if he was built like Cyril Smith (for those who don't remember him he was a rather large UK MP known more for the waist size of his trousers than his politics) would Hank get the same sound.
I know that there are certain notes that when I hit them I can feel them reverberate through my body. Would a Cyril Smith soak up some of this reverberation more than a Hank?

Hi Tony,
An interesting thought, I'll start my diet tomorrw. Perhaps Hank has special resonant suits made also.
;D ;D
Kind regards,
Chris

Cyril Smith playing a Strat? Now there's something for the imagination - if it will stretch that far!
Cheers.

I'm currently following the Weightwatchers diet plan and this thread has motivated me even more to shed those extra pounds (stones ) so in essence what your saying is the more weight I lose the closer I will get to 'that sound'....I love it ;D Ian

I was told once, Don't fall asleep on a beach! You will wake up with 40 people around pooring water on you and pushing you towards the sea ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D I don't think slimming would change the sound. Andy

In that case, I haven't got a hope in hell of sounding anything like Hank. D; D; D; D; Scott
