hello to everybody, could somebody suggest a good microphone to either mic and record electric guitar? Well known models are: - shure SM57 - Sennheiser E609 - audix i5 but i do not know the difference among them, maybe one of them is more suitable for Shadows music? Or maybe there are good alternatives to them? thanks benitor

Hi I was recommended to buy a Shure SM57, that one seem's to have quite a popular following, I've found it to be a very good mic. How the Shure compares to the others you have listed I do not know? I do have great respect for Sennheiser products, so would be interested in any opinions on that one

Hi Benitor,
The Sure SM57 are good mics, I use them to mic amps through the PA on club nights, never an issue.

Hi Benitor, I can also vouch for the SM57. I mic up my Laney LV 300 amp to the p.a. when out gigging, it gives very good reproduction. I actually picked mine up secondhand on the well known auction site for for £25.00. I don't know how old it was when I bought it but I have been using it for 10 years without a single problem.

thanks to all of you for suggestions. I would be curious about the Neumann U47 but I saw in the web that it is really expensive. The Nady RMS-4 is not expensive but it is seems to me it is not so easy to find. The SM57 is possible to find in every shop, is cheap and is a classic, I think I'll go for it. regards benitor

Hi Brian,
Yes I still have a USA Shure Unidine 111. Had it from about 1965. It was the 'must have' Mike for all the Bands in the sixties, brilliant.

Hi.
Personally I like the ribbon Mic's, to me they have a more natural sound, I have used a Beyer M160 since 1967/68 and it still keep to the spec after all these years. I even use the sheep Nady RSM-4 and it is very good and if you have a preamp, it is needed, it is a very good choice.
Kind Regards, 26rednef

I have two of the Unidyne III mics. One of them has an XLR connector and an on/off switch on the mic itself, unlike the more commom switch model that had a separate body with a swivel. Must have been a later version before the SM57 came out. Apparently the Unidyne III was the favourite mic of Stevie Ray Vaughan for miking amps in the studio. After reading that, it gave me a whole new way of thinking about how good these mics actually were. Regards, Charlie
