G'day Peter,
My setup is virtually the same as Ian's (and yours).
I use a Korg AX5G output straight into the PC sound-card Line In.
You need the appropriate 6.5mm stereo to 3.5mm stereo adapters and lead.
The only software needed to play the guitar Line In is the pre-existing PC sound controls.
To play along with backing tracks I use either Winamp freeware or the bog-standard Windows Media Player.
To record, I use the Audacity freeware - which will play the backing track and record from Line In (or other selected input) simultaneously.
Regards, Dave.

so no extra connections needed usb interface ect?... P.S. to answer that question directly - No, you don't need USB for this setup. Dave.

Hi Peter, Your line input might be turned off in the sound settings of your computer. Regards, Charlie

Depending on the quality of your motherboard soundcard (if a laptop), you may suffer from latency problems going via the line in. If this does occur you will need a soundcard either external (USB,Firewire etc) or if using a desktop PC maybe an internal card, both, will use A.S.I.O drivers to reduce latency.
Mike.

Hi
I record on my PC by simply connecting the headphone socket on my amp to the line in on my PC without any problems. I use Audacity to record and there is a facility within it to allow for any latency. On my PC it's negligible regarding hearing what you play, 187 milliseconds, but it is just noticable if you mix the backing and recorded tracks together. Luckily you can set the latency value in Audacity and it automatically makes the correction for you.
Like the new microwave Charlie ;D ;D
