I have a 1976 Fender Strat which I bought from new. I have concerns about the Tremelo block due to wear as its now over 30yrs old. I would like to remove it to preserve it and replace it in order that I can play the guitar without wearing the old trem hole out rendering it useless. My queery is; if I fitted a replacement should I use the existing 6 screws rather than any new one's which came with a replacement or any suggestions as to purchasing a replacement. I would be most gratefull for any observations on this as I am not DIY and feel insecure about making a mistake. Regards Tony

Hi Tony, The tremolo block might be made of mazak material on your guitar. I am not sure if a standard steel block is interchangeable with these mazak blocks, but I don't really see why it wouldn't be, unless the bridge plate and block are a one piece item. I think I remember hearing that some of them were. The screws are probably worn, so if the replacements are the same size and pitch and appearance, I think I would fit new ones. Alternatively you could possibly use the old ones in their original positions! and turn them slightly so the worn parts are no longer in direct contact with the knife edges of the bridge plate holes. You really need to measure the distances between the screw holes as well to ensure that any replacement wouldn't require the wood holes to be plugged and re-drilled. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie, when one is not very DIY handy you lack confidence to actually do things as you can soon mess up permanently. I shall bare your comments in mind now. Regards Tony
