Does anyone have their strat setup with a tone control on the bridge pickup?
There is a simple modification on the Seymour Duncan site and to my old ears it does give added sounds.
Cheers Barry

Hi Barry, I do that on all my Strats (I have 2 at the moment). I haven't looked at the Duncan mod but guess it is a wire link on the switch. What I do is have the same link but instead of a piece of wire I use a 0.022uF capacitor. This gives stock tone controls on switch positions 1-4, and in position 5 (bridge pickup alone) it retains more mids when backing off the tone control. It also helps to retain more highs in that position when the tone control is on 10. What is actually happening by doing that is putting both tone capacitors in series in position 5. So a 0.1 cap in series with a 0.022 cap makes approximately 0.018uF (without checking by calculation). This is a good value for a (Clapton) woman tone type tone control. Regards, Charlie

yes I have on all 3 strats(made in china).very useful though appreciation of the interaction in position 2 and 4 is beyond my sense of perception, in other words I can't tell the difference whether the bridge tone's working or the other, but the tone control for the bridge pu is useful. cheers

The middle tone control should work for the neck pickup or any combination that includes the neck pickup (positions 1 and 2), and the lower tone control should work for the middle pickup, and any combination that includes the middle pickup (positions 2, 3 and 4), and additionally, with the modification, the middle tone control should also work on the bridge pickup alone (position 5). Regards, Charlie

on my guitars(modded of course) the "middle" tone control works on the neck and middle pu while the "lower " control works exclusively on the bridge pu.This way I can have stark contrast when switching from a mellow toned neck/middle pu to the bridge pu.I'm not saying it's the best combination but just that I'm happy with it. cheers all

Hi George, In that case then the both tone controls are most likely working in position 4. If the capacitor is common to both tone controls then the sound will be a little warmer in position 4. In the set up I described the both tone controls will work (and do work on all stock Strats with the usual wiring) in position 2. In those cases, position 2 has the warmer sound (but most of us don't know any different because almost all Strats are like that). Regards, Charlie
