Hi I've posted this one in this section as I posted a second tune 'It's A Man's World' in the Members section today too www.youtube.com/watch?v=dt5-tPyKbYkIt's recorded on a Magic Stomp very kindly on loan and a Roland MicroCube (not the VOX in the video). I've been practising on the MicroCube as it's better for learning more technique at this stage (i.e. not as loud). A few times in other posts I've mentioned the Mexican Strat gets more interference from the amp if I stand too close as demonstrated in this video when I moved though fortunately it's not very loud. Best wishes Rosemary

Hi Rosemary,
Another great sound and well played. If I could mention that perhaps a little louder on the BT would enable the lead to blend in to the mix a bit more. Well done.
Kind regards Roger

Hi Roger Thanks for your nice comments. I thought the same - that the backing is too low. It's strange that the little Roland MicroCube seemed louder than the VOX amp on my usual recordings but maybe I had the volume higher. It is quite a powerful little amp and the batteries last forever so I'm glad I kept it after upgrading. Best wishes Rosemary

Hi Rosemary A great result . i really enjoyed listing to it. I have admired your progress in the last few months, you have progressed and play much better than myself. I would like to know how you achieve this?. Do you learn tunes from tab , or are you capable of playing by ear, do you have lessons ?
Kind regards Tony

Hi Paul, Ian, Tony, Cess and Richard
Thanks for your nice comments. I really like the tone the Magicstomp produces on this one.
Tony: Thanks. I think the echo unit makes it sound a lot better than my other soundfiles too but I have also been practising hard. Nowdays whenever possible I look at tabs first as I used to play by ear and then find I wasn't using the best position and had to relearn them. Sometimes I change the position from the tabs if it suits my hand better or e.g. if I want to slide a few frets and the tabs show an open string.
I haven't had lessons but have had a lot of wonderful help here when stuck and have a large collection of text files with notes on how to play certain parts. Having our own Shadows Club this year has also helped very much.
Richard: My Mexican Strat gets played more than my USA Strat as it's on a stand and quicker to pick up and play than the USA Strat in its case. The Mexican Strat always sounds better than the USA Strat through the MicroCube but both guitars sound very similar through the VOX.
Thanks again Best wishes Rosemary

Hi Rosemary !
Just looked at the video ! You did well, no doubt !
But . . . Such a lovely melody ! For it doesn't seem that you have any problems to play it - why not thinking to give it the right - how should I say - environment ? Thinking about the light (Your face is in the shadow) ? And a look at the camera from time to time ? Rosemary, looking at your avatar I think (and I hope the others do also): "Hey, Rosemary, give us the same smile when you play!"
Hope I did right sharing my thoughts . . .
Kind regards Gerhard

Hi Gerhard Thanks. That's fine and my husband has said exactly the same about those videos. He says I should use better lighting and also asked why I didn't move the printer paper which is sticking out from the shelf under the camera but I didn't notice that until later. It's a very cramped room so I place the camera near the computer speakers that play the backing and as far back from the amp as possible. I'll try to work out a better angle next time and will try to remember to smile occasionally Best wishes Rosemary

Hi, Rosemary. Honestly, you have improved so much more quickly in the short time since you began than I have in ten years. Very nice.
If I may offer some advice to improve it further. Listen carefully to the record again, but concentrate on Hank's phrasing. If you play along with him, you may find he strikes some notes slightly ahead or later, or louder or softer than you do. He is very expressive. But these are now the finer points.
The end of Atlantis requires that sudden shift from the neck pickup to the bridge, as the ending notes are quite bright compared to the muted section before it. I am convinced the muted sections ere overdubbed, but am told the lightning-fast switch to the bridge pickup is possible. At the moment I cheat and use the middle pickup at the end.
Atlantis is probably my favorite Shadows piece.
My best,
Andy

Hi Rosemary,
Just to say I happily listened to that (and the other one you posted recently) all the way through to the end and enjoyed it.
I didn't even notice the noise you mention (things like that don't bother me if I am enjoying the music).

Hi Lou, Andy and Bill Thanks very much for your nice comments. Andy: It's interesting you mentioned phrasing because that's very much on my mind now especially in the numbers I've been playing for awhile. For instance sometimes I notice a note is too pronounced so I'll need to learn to pick it more lightly or maybe use a downstroke instead of an upstroke etc. Thanks again Best wishes Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, I know I've not been around for quite a while. I must say that there's a vast improvement in your playing. It does make a difference when you have equipment that will improve the sound as it really encourages the player (Magicstomp)! It's a pleasure to watch and hear your progress Rosemary, keep at it girl, and it is time to allow comments.
Regards, Jim

My best, Andy I advised Rosemary in the past to leave the final damping section on the bridge pup then you don't have to worry about switching, theres not too much difference in tone.

Yes, good idea. It really is a challenge, that final bit. The first damped section is on the bridge pu, the damped outro on the neck, and the very bright finale on the bridge again. Quite a distinct tonal difference. But several here assure me it can be done!

Andres
