hi all was just wondering if anybody could help me with my zoom G2 pedal. I have recently started work at a local nursing home as the caretaker. Once a week they have a concert for the residents, mainly old time music etc. I have played guitar all my life ( not very good mind lol) and have said I will learn a load of shadows numbers to play to the residents. I have tried various patches off the net to emulate the shads sound but have not found anything to cover all off the different echo settings. any help would be most appreciated Regardz from Neil...

Hi Neil, I have a set of files that will enable you to program your G2 with 29 programs to play almost any Shadows tune and certainly all of the popular ones. It should take about 1-2 hours to program all the parameters. The main sounds include both of the early Meazzi echo units and the RE-301 echo unit as used by Hank. Amp modellings are also included but if you don't like them they can be turned off. I can understand you not having much success in programming it, I had to play a number of tricks with the programming to get the right results. The files would cost £15. Please email me for more information if you are interested: charliehallATntlworld.com (replacing AT with @). Also feel free to ask other G2 users here what they think. Regards, Charlie

Hi Neil, For the price the Zoom G2 is a fantastic unit. I've had it for quite some time I've have had the Boss GT 10 which is very good but won't do Shadows Echoes. I've sold this now and still have the G2. The thing I like about it is if I play a more modern sort of Hank style number I can start off lean with a Shads type echo going on then press the footswich and go into the most dirtiest distorted sound There is a learning curve but you wont be dissapointed. I used the G2 on this which is Billy Joels Leningrad from clean to distorted so you can see its versatility accompanied by reverb from the Boss BR 600 recorder. www.4shared.com/file/15773160/256023bb/LENINGRAD.htmlRegards Tony

Thanks Charlie, for what it is the G2 is an extremely versatile and popular little box. There is a very good library site for all genre's of music and consists of input by users which sometimes can act as a good starting point. guitarpatches.haax.se/Regards Tony

Thanks for the link to that Leningrad mp3 Tony. Absolutely awesome sound that is m8. Is the distorted section using the zoom overdrive?. I've been to that patches library but thanks anyway. The shads classic and modern are already progammed into my G2, they are ok to practice with but a bit too general if you know what I mean. Thats why I asked Charlie for a copy of his patches, more song specific etc. Roll on pay day so I can get the cheque in the post lol
Thanks again guys
Neil

Hi John and Neil, I did this file probably about 18 months ago. The distortion sound is probably the Pu with the cabinet on but, and its a big but, you wont get that particular sound using a Strat fitted with single coils. I used a PRS CE 24 for the distorted part which was fitted with their HFS humbuckers ( Hot Fat and Screaming) humbuckers are the key to a smooth well overdriven sound and as I say very difficult to get with single coils. But then again the PRS wont do Shads stuff. On this track 2 guitars were necessary. The only Strat which can get close to both ( but not full anorak), and I use it a lot now is my Yngwie Malmsteen signature Strat. As I said I can play a song in Shads style with the G2 using the Malmsteen on one of Charlies patches then move straight into overdrive which it does admirably also its very versitile. You may get a good overdrive with single coils on the Pu setting if you experiment but it probably wont sound the same as the PRS on the recording. The pickups on the Malmsteen Strat are DiMarzio. Hope this helps.

Hi Neil, Thanks for letting me know. I guess that it will become more apparent how the patches are built when you see my settings, but the figures alone might not make a lot of sense. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie
Just spent acouple of hours dialing in them G2 patches, absolutely awsome mate.
Even my wife had to ask if it was me playing and i'm not even that good lol.
Just one question regarding the reverb section, some of the patches ask for a Md reverb, the nearest one I could find is Nd. Is this the right one?
Thanks again...
Neil ( a very happy neil that is lol )

Hi Neil, Thanks for letting us know you like it. Look at page 29 of the User's manual. It shows the symbol for Md as Nd (The N is in fact an M). The confusion arises because of the way letters are displayed on the display. So you have it right. Regards, Charlie

Hi Neil, Yes its very important you get this right; HL is a Hall Reverb. Nd as you say is Actually Multi Tap Delay. All depending what size amp you have you may get a better sound on the FC drive and turning off the Et ( extra eq) and adjusting the E9 eq. Its horses for courses and whatever sounds good. Use your ears, its all in there its just finding your best sound. Experiment/tweak is the word. Enjoy M8 Regards Tony

Hi Charlie and all.
going live with my g2 this week at the nursing home, only playing ten numbers mind. would rather play ten quality tunes than play 20 that I had'nt properley learnt. If I don't get boo'ed off I will learn some more etc. I did however play the ten tunes to a bunch of musician friends using charlies recomended patch per tune after a visit to the pub, not a good move when playing guitar mind lol. The comments were all about how authentic the sound was per tune.
Its the best £15 quid I've ever spent!!!
Thanks again Charlie...
Regardz
Neil
