Hi, We have just put up another article on the TVS website titled Some Guitars used by Hank, which describes and shows many of the guitars known to have used by Hank in performance at one stage or another. At the moment you have to click through two links to get to it, but we are working on it so that it comes up with just one click from the menu bar. Any comments or additions to this would be welcome. See: www.tvsspecialtyproducts.com/page9.htmRegards, Paul.

Rectification : not from Patrice Bastion, but from Patrice Bastien (december 1980 in Paris).

Hiya, Interesting stuff... I remember seeing him play a '55 two-tone Strat in (I think) '89. He mentioned that guitar in an interview with a magazine called 'Guitar heroes' in the early 80s as being a backup to the red 58 Strat. Hate to split hairs, but there are no Les Pauls, Custom, De Luxe or otherwise in that collection photo. There is a Gibson Firebird and a copy of a Les Paul. Oh... you forgot the bazooki at the end of Summer Holiday Cheers, Julian

Hi Julian,
Many thanks for your comments. You are quite right about the lack of Les Pauls in that photo. The one that I thought was a Deluxe (without close examination of the headstock) is in fact apparently a Roland guitar synth that Hank used in the '70's (feedback from Jim Nugent). I have since found a photo of him with a Deluxe and will make the correction in a update soon. I stopped short of bazookis and lutes!
Regards,
paul.

Hiya Paul. My Dad saw M,W&F/Shadows in the 70s (during the period when Bruce was absent) and he said HBM played a Les Paul at some point during that show, but no idea whether it was even a Gibson, let alone the model... I wish I still had the article I referred to above as that had photos of his guitars on stands - no Gibsons but there was a custom made guitar that looked a bit like a 3/4 sized Les Paul Junior in sunburst with a p90 towards the neck instead of the bridge. The main two page 'poster' was Hank and Bruce posing with their Strats - Hanks was the 'French' 58 and Bruce's was 34346 before he had it restored (ie. still white). I think it dates back to around the time of the 'XXV' tour, so I guess the guitars photographed would have been whatever he was using on the tour? Cheers, Julian

Cheers, Julian Hank bought the "french" 1958 Strat on december 5th 1980, the day after the concert at the Mogador theater in Paris. This concert was part of their promotional European "Change of Address" tour. The guitar was paid (14,000 FF) by Polydor, not by Hank himself. Didier

I've seen Hank play a black Strat with large headstock and also a white Strat. I have no idea of model types or which years he played them but it was a long time ago. Peter
