Does anyone know where I can find a set of Tonerider Pure Vintage Strat PUPS from (Arctic White). There does'nt appear to be a right handed set anywhere in the country. Clive

Easiest thing Clive would be to change your playing style to left handed, I've got a few sets available Dangleberry are their main dealers in the UK but looking on the well known auction site they only seem to have lefties available as well. It may be worth contacting Tonerider direct, I've had a couple of sets that way. Cheers Barry

Barry, I'll do that - You really had me thinking you was serious about me playing left handed!!! Do you think it's a good idea to try changing?

Clive I only wish I could play right handed, I've tried and it's not easy.
Lefty guitars have a premium cost added to them of up to 25%, and some of the makers, PRS for example have even stopped making guitars for lefties.
You're also restricted to the colours the makers have and with Fender it's just about 3 tone sunburst or nothing. The bits if you're upgrading the guitars are harder to find. The only thing I'm lucky with is the left handed strings, I can get them most places.
Stick to playing the right way, it makes for a simpler life.

Barry, I didn't mean a good idea changing to left handed - I meant do you think it a good idea changing the standard pups to the Tonerider Vintage - I'm trying to pick your brains. C

C Hello Clive, The short answer is yes depending on what you have at present. I think the Toneriders are the best value for money pickups you can get. I don't know what your experience is with a soldering iron, but it's certainly not a big job to change a set of pickups. I've done this on a couple of lefty MIJ strats where the pickups used are vintage Japanese which are not brilliant, far from it. While I was changing the pickups, the owners asked for the pots to be done at the same time. If you look on the Tonerider site, there are a few soundfiles for their Vintage pickups. Cheers Barry

Hi BarryLeft handed strings indeed, next you'll be telling us about left handed picks ;D ;D
Seriously though it does look like there is a shortage of right handed Toneriders, could this be due to the recession, I understand they are made in China and recently saw a news article about droves of factory workers being laid off.
Regards, Tim.

Hi Tim, Believe it or not, there are left handed picks available. Try putting a normal thumb pick on your left hand thumb and the point goes the wrong way. I did tell you that lefties had it tough. cgi.the well known auction site.co.uk/P2ZH-Fred-Kelly-Poly-Slick-Thumb-Pick-LEFT-HAND-Heavy_W0QQitemZ190302734608QQcmdZViewItem As I mentioned, the strings are no problem really, I just turn them over, but I do have to make sure I get the right side up. Clive have you tried Dangleberry?
I just looked on their website and the system "appears" to show they have them in stock. I would definitely give them a call before placing an order though, I've never been one of their best fans. They once sent me a set of three pickups out in a PLASTIC BAG. Not the best protection in the world.

Hi Barry,
I'm surprised how easy it is for me to still get my foot in my mouth. It's said that with age comes wisdom, I can tell you they don't always travel hand in hand. ;D

Hi Barry, I've looked on Dangleberry's site and see that they only have, (dare I say), left-handed sets (seriously!!!). Am I missing something? I understand that they have a shipment coming in from the States during the next couple of weeks. Rgds - Clive

Emiel, Did you change to the Vintage pups from the standard ones that came with your Strat? Was there a vast difference in sound? Rgds - Clive

Hi Clive,
I bought a set of Pure Vintage Strat pups from" Powerhousemusicandtechnology", E-Bay
seller # 2776. a few months ago- I believe the owner name is Steve. The store is in Australia.
Somehow, I've lost the record of the transaction when I switched to a new E-Bay a/c.
I paid approx. $114.00 (Cdn) - a heck of a deal , but I hear the price has since gone up.
You'll be able to trace the seller on E-bay and contact them.
I just searched the store- seems like they only have one "lefty "for sale - when I bought
mine, the store had a few available - these Vintage pups are just selling like hotcakes !!
They're even tough to trace in the US !!!
If you're still interested, keep in contact with the store- they may be able to keep a set aside
for you as soon as they have stock. I've had no problems with communications from them.
I wasn't disappointed when I had them installed in my US Texas Special Strat. - they seem to
have a slightly mellowed tone compared to my '57 MJ Strat.
Best of luck.
Jim

Hi Clive,
I changed the standard pickup's of my Mexican Strat for the Vintage ones and there is a big difference. They sound warmer and specially the bridge pickup, the two magnets of the E and B string are Alnico III, gives a smoother sound. But to be honest, they can not compete with my 57/62's Fenders. These are more lively.
Speaking of pickup's. I recently swapped my Burns Marquee for a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat and believe me, the pickup's are great! That is value for money!! They are all Alnico III and give a warm yet bright sound. As far as I know they are not available as a set.
Regards, Emiel

If it's of any interest to anyone, I contacted Andrew, the boss of Tonerider asking about the problems with delivery in the UK.
This was his reply:
Hi Barry,
For the last couple of months we just haven't been able to keep up with demand, particularly in the UK but we are shipping more items to dealers this week.
Regards,
Andrew
This more or less confirms what someone mentioned earlier. Good to see Tonerider doing so well.
Cheers Barry
