Although I now tend to use JamUp/Bias for most of my playing. There are still times I use my other gear, also my wife plays violin, so I wanted a good backing tracks player on my iPad.
After a bit of investigation I can recommend 'One Track' as a great piece of kit. It's a bit more expensive than others I looked at, but the features it contain make it well worth it.
You can create your own setlists on the fly, not just use iTunes playlists. Start, stop, pause tracks. When one track finishes in a playlist, the next track is loaded, but waits until you start it. It has a 'performance' mode which would be great for playing live.
The other plus for me was that it can be controlled from the Airturn BT-105 pedal.
The only downside is that it's not optimized for the iPad, so has to be used in 'portrait' mode.
All in all though a great bit of kit.
Tim.

Hi Tim,
At my Shadows Guitar Club we have been using an iPad for backing tracks for quite a while now. We use the APP 'One Track Mind' and find it terrific. We have the iPad on a stand by the side of the control desk and feeds the PA speakers. Since we started using it, I have downloaded the 'One Track Mind' APP to my iPad Mini at home and have it loaded with backing tracks. I have it fed into a powered speaker and is so easy to use. Plus one from me.......

Hi Both,
I have used that One Track Mind, but find One Track far superior, plus the Airturn support is an added bonus.
I think the reason it gets missed is it doesn't come under iPad apps on the App store as it's optimised for the iPhone, but works fine on the iPad.
Cheers, Tim.

My iPad has become so much a part of my music kit that it hardly ever gets used for anything else! Good job I have an iPhone as well (though even that has my music stuff backed up on it!) Goodness knows where we'll be in five years time!

Hi Tim, I have used OneTrack at home for quite a while now. I bought it from the app store when it was about 99p. It has been updated dramatically since and now it has AirTurn support I am now looking at using it for gigs. Have you tried using it in landscape mode? I find it works in both landscape and portrait on my iPad 3 and on iPhone. If it doesn't it might be worth checking you have the latest update. I have also had an email from Sean Bergin who created the app saying that he is hard at work on a native iPad version of OneTrack so there is plenty to look forward to. Best Wishes Regards Steve B

Hi Steve,
Sorry, yes it does work in landscape mode, it just looks better in portrait.
It's great to hear that there's an iPad version in the pipeline.

Hi Guys
I was looking for iPad software for the club and based on a recommendation have just installed "Stage Traxx" which for our purposes seems very good indeed!
One of our members drew may attention earlier in the week to Yamaha now being the parent company of Line 6, the new amp does look pretty good with the 75 watt model priced at around £300.00.

Hi Gary
I think both One Track and Stage traxx have far more functions than One track mind. But if your using the Ipad for a club meeting I think One Track Mind may well suit you better. For a solo player I'm sure that One Track or Stage Traxx is far superior however if your not sure what tunes you are going to be playing and have a lot of tracks to choose from then One Track Mind is easier to navigate from. The other thing One Track Mind has going for it is that it is free.

Hi all Have just downloaded One Track Mind and have transfered all my backing tracks which were in individual folders (Shadows, Spotnicks,Roger Paulsson etc) from PC to I-Tunes and then onto One Track Mind but they have not gone on as folders but as one continious alphabetical list of all the tracks. Is this how it should be? Also can anyone please advise in very simple terms how you create a playlist on OTM as all I get is one screen which is split with playlist header on the left, and underneath this are My top rated, recently added, recently played, top 25 most played, 90's music and purchased and on the right an empty list unless I touch recently added which then shows all the tracks from i-tunes. At the bottom are the stop/start buttons etc and the track timer. I just cannot see how/where I can create a playlist Any help or advise would be much apprieciated

It's worth pointing out that One track mind and One Track are different Apps. On One track mind you need to create your playlists in Itunes first and then sync your phone or Ipad. Here's how to do it Create a playlist

Hi GarryC,
It's as Jason says. Connect your iPad to the computer. Go into iTunes. Highlight your iPad, and from the top menu:- File, New, Playlist Folder. This will put a folder in your iPad list. Rename this to 'Backing Tracks'. Now highlight your new folder. Back up to the top menu and select:- File, New, Playlist (as Jason says) and rename it to your choice. Then create another and rename that one and so on. Then import your files into the library, sort them into alphabetical order, and drag them into your chosen playlist. Job done. Exit iTunes and fire up 'One Track Mind'.

Hi Roger Thank you for your reply, will certainly give it a try hopefully tomorrow if I can rescue the I-pad from the wife ( must get her one for her birthday ) On a slightly different theme I absolutely loved your version of Over The Rainbow ( have downloaded it to my MP3 player) may I ask where you purchased the excellent backing track from ? I've attempted to download the "One Track" app - both for iPhone or iPad - but no luck. I can't find it anywhere on the App Store. I can easily find "One Track Mind" but would like to look at the One Track App first, and choose between the two Apps. Any thoughts or advice anyone?? All help gratefully received. Dave

Hi Jase. Thanks so much for the link. My iPad is linked to Japan - I think that's why I couldn't find the App. It's now being downloaded as I write this. Thanks again!! Dave

I've downloaded the One Track App and after a brief period, I've been amazed by it's features and capabilities. It's perfect for organizing and playing BT's. Some features that I like: Locking the iPad Screen. Slide up with one finger to adjust the master volume. Slide up with two fingers to adjust individual track volumes. Large on-screen controls. Lining up the next track on the Play list. The ability to organize Play Lists using One Track. I'm still checking out other features. Well worth the £10:50!! Dave

What would be great now would be a mixer app that could take feed, say via Audiobus, from One Track and JamUp to create a single output allowing you to balance BT and guitar.
Does one exist does anyone know?
Tim.

In JamUp Pro, I can balance guitar and BTs very simply. There is a master volume but then, for the BTs I can adjust speed, pitch and volume individually.

Hi Noel,
I agree you can balance the BT's and guitar sound in JamUp, but you have to manually select each track, and it starts as soon as selected. One Track is really geared for artists playing to backing tracks.
I think the problem is they're totally separate apps that are great at what they do. JamUp for guitar, effects and sims, One Track for handling BT's. It's just a shame you can't use the two together.
Unless I buy another iPad, now theres a thought.
Tim.

If you select BACKGROUND AUDIO MODE (JamUP Settings), you can use JamUp and other apps at the same time, Tim.
Cheers

I can't see why you would need another program to play Backing Tracks in iTunes , There is a 10 band graphic equaliser already there in manual mode or about 22 already optimised for those who want a quick set up , and if you want to play the tracks one by one just uncheck them , I personally just let them run checked , I think there is about a 5 second gap between songs which gives plenty of time to adjust the Magicstomp for the next song .

Noel,
Of course, I forgot about running JamUp in Background Audio.
That's much better now.
Thanks for your help,
Tim.
