Hi Guys A friend of mine asked me what inexpensive one tube pre-amplifier he coud use. Anyone, has any idea on that He is going to use an amplifier that has only a tone, volume control and a gain. He wants to be able to 'warm' ;D up his sound. Thanks for the answers. Sheendigs

Hi Sheendigs, If your friend is already using a valve amp, there may not be too much advantage in using a valve preamp with it unless he wants to boost the gain to overdrive the amp input. If he is using a solid state amp, then overdriving the input would most likely not work very well. He may be better off using an EQ pedal of some kind. I think the ART microphone amp models might be the sort of thing he is thinking of and they are not very expensive, they can colour the sound but I have seen mixed reports about them when used for guitar, bass or microphones. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie It is a solid state amp...I guess he wants to colour it a little bit with a tube..I will inquire with a friend that uses an ART tube preamp..I do not know if he ever used it with a guitar. On a microphone he has used it..several times and it sounds good! How about the Electro-Harmonix LPB Tube Preamp Or about this one from ART.. www.artproaudio.com/products.asp?id=58&cat=1&type=79Sheendigs

Hi Sheendigs, The ART in the link you posted looks interesting, with variable voicing. It might be worth trying, but I think I would rather use a valve amp to begin with. Regards, Charlie

Having looked at the features, it does read good. I didn't listen to the demo as there are too many variables that can influence the result. Regards, Charlie
