Hi all
Who had the first Fender Stratocaster in the UK, was it Cliff Richard or Chas McDevitt?
Cheers Peter

Hi Peter, There was an article I think in Guitarist magazine that stated that it was thought that Chas McDevitt's Strat was the first, however, it was also discussed here recently and someone pointed out that his Strat has a rosewood board, so it seems that it would have been made later than Hank's first Strat. Regards, Charlie

Thanks Charlie. Reading A.R. Duchossoir's book, The Fender Stratocaster, he mentions that Fender started out making the Strat with rose wood boards in 59. The Jaz master was the first rose wood board Fender which appeared in 58.
I do know that the oldest known Strat out side of the USA is Dave Gilmour's with a serial number 0001, circa 1954. It isn't the very first one but from the first production batch. Obviously dave never had it from new.
