Today, Derek expedited my shipment. And guess what, it's a Hall and Collins Signature Echo!
I'm really looking forward to the delivery from UPS. Over the years I have acquired me some high-class echoes, multiple Vox Long Tom, TVS3, Q2, Q20, Tube Echo G2 and several others. No matter what I have available at home I am very eager to hear the H & C.
The video and audio clips that I have heard makes me sure there is a way through elaborate product. Also, I have both seen and heard Kurt Fröberg (The Ryders) play with his own H & C - and that is very inspiring.
Cheers //Rolf

Hi Rolf
It was Kurt Froberg that inspired me to do 'Somewhere' after hearing him play it on the H@C. And now the H@C has inspired me to do morr.
Rolf, this may not be the appropriate forum to ask you this but I note you mentioned the Tube Echo G2. I have been researching tape echo's for a number of years, my book is around 500 pages with heaps of photos mainly from the well known auction site, friends and my own collection (which I've just about sold out now). Of course I do try and contact the owners of photos for permission to use. My question is, can you tell me about the Tube Echo G2, I don't have it listed amongst the other many many brands and models. And would you have a photo of it.
Regards Val

Regards Val Hi ValKurtI agree with you, Kurt's version of 'Somewhere' is stunning. He has such a relaxed appearance when he plays and I like that too ... The Tube Echo G2I should of course be able to tell a lot about the echo but I have virtually not used it since I bought it. Some basic information I can share:The Tube Echo G2 is the Swedish built. The construction is stable and two rack units high. Tube driven. Based on the eTap. The outer layout has a speciall feature:You can see the 5 holes (gray) punched out of the structure. The lights either red or blue depending on how you want the controls to interact with the circuit. They are gray as in picture when the unit is turned off. You engage this function via push/pull potentiometer. Otherwise, it is a standard layout with control knobs for Volume, Tone, etc. The pictureAs you can see in the picture, I have several kinds of echoes, it gives me the opportunity to experiment a lot with echoes / delay etc in my studio environment. Waiting for the Hall & Collins now ... Cheers //Rolf

Hi Rolf
For some reason I thought the 'tube echo G2' may have been a tape echo unit, hence my interest for my research book. But wow, what a great collection of great echo's. It must get confusing knowing which one to use and when, but if you are a collector then I understand. It's all history isn't it. Boy, hasn't Hank Marvin got a lot to answer for.

Hi Val
Do you have pictures of the Vox Standard Echo ? This is not the Domino or Long Tom. It is pictured in a Vox catalogue from the mid-1960s and is called the Vox Standard Echo. In the last 10 years or so I have only seen one for sale on the well known auction site and it sold for about $2500. A friend of mine has one and I have some pictures of it if you are interested.
Regards
Adrian

HI Adrian
I don't have any listed as Vox Standard but I have a good section on the Vox echo's starting with the Vox Meazzie's, Short and Long Tom, Vox Echo Deluxe Model CO2, Vox Echo Unit Model SV (mid 60s)that may be the standard one?, Vox Echo Reverb V807, and Vox Echo Deluxe V837, plus the Domino models. I would appreciate some photo's anyway,I am constantly changing pics as I get better ones. Maybe it would be better if you send them to my email: valstarr AT iinet.net.au (replace AT with @ and remove the spaces). I don't want to flood Charlie Halls site away from what this forum is about but I will leave it up to you. I've been trying to find out more about the Vox Echo Reverb V807, the poor quality photo's I have also show the echo system which appears to look like an oil-can echo but may be one that use's the electrostatic wipers (not in oil) instead of the conventional heads. It's actually fascinating as to how many different tape echo's were made. I've spoken to echo owners all over the world eg, Poland, Russia, Sweden, UK, Germany, Argentina, Japan etc. And builders of home made tape echo's.

I see that you have a TVS3 in your rack. Would love to hear your comparison between the H&C and the TVS3.

Wow thats a nice collection there, I have the Zoom G7 and and the Hall & Collins. to my ear, the TVS and Hall & Collins are the best sounding Matthew HCSEI have now had two intense test days with my HCSE and it is very impressive! My "friends", without ranking them, is ...Vox Long Tom TVS3 Hall & Collins I think all three are at a very high level, the highest you could say. I am privileged to have them in my possession. The environmentMy little home studio is now spiced up with the best I can get. Very useful to have access to the echoes of that caliber. My signal chain is Guitar / Echo / BOSS GE-10 / AmpI'm very accurate with the setting of the amplifiers, always trying to find the "sweet spot" at any level so that the need for reverb or compressor pedals are excluded. My oldie VOX AC30/6 and JMI 30/4 contributes much to my sound. I have a couple of old vintage amplifiers 1957, Valco Oahu and Valco Tone Master who also delivers a creamy, warm vintage sound, not unlike the Vox. Regards // Rolf
