Hi Mike, Yes, a Classic 30. First time I ever played through one apart from at the prior rehearsal. I didn't take an amp with me and it was the one I felt safest with from what was available after trying a few. Regards, Charlie

Hey, I've just watched the videos! Fantastic! Here's the link to 'Shadoogie' - Charlie on lead: youtu.be/_CioaSdPNvUWish I could play like that. Was the Hall & Collins SE near your feet, Charlie? Looks about the right size. And Istvan playing 'Genie with the Light Brown Lamp': youtu.be/mVSC2FK5SFIAnother amazing performance! Sound was pretty good too! There are several other associated great videos in addition to the above. Mike

Hi Mike, Yes, my prototype H&CSE was in front of me, and I don't think you can see it in the video but Istvan's H&CSE was next to it. Here is Dance On, one of the few I didn't make many bad mistakes: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uxND_C1dY0&feature=youtu.beRegards, Charlie

While it looked about the right size the 4 knobs were sitting proud rather than recessed as in the final product. Was that the prototype unit you used when I visited last year? It certainly convinced me that nothing would stop me from purchasing one for myself as soon as it was released I now realise that I've been playing the opening riff to 'Dance On' incorrectly. Mine is a more muddled approach while dipping the whammy bar at the appropriate moments. Listening to your performance has taught me how it should be done - thanks! It's good to see you letting your hair down and enjoying yourself - you deserve it! Regards, Mike

Hi Mike, Yes, it's the same unit that you saw, except the program patches at the time were not near completion. The knobs are not fitted at all at the moment, nor in the videos, but you are right that they protrude more than the production models. The production model casings were made slightly taller and with a deeper recessed channel to fix that. Glad to know there is something helpful in the videos!
Hi Matthew, In case you try out a Classic 30, for lead I used the clean channel with mids full up, treble completely off, bass off most of the time or fairly low, and boost switch on. For rhythm I left the mids full up, switched the boost off and set the treble and bass both around halfway. I could have made other settings for some tunes but for live performance there isn't really time to change too many things.
Regards, Charlie

Hi István and Charlie, I can see, that you guys had a good time, what kind of bear did you guys have? (since it's an important ingredient to the perfect early Shadows sound in Austria:) I wish I could've been there, unfortunately by the time I received István's notice, I already had prior vacation engagement arranged with my family for these days.

Interesting that you had the treble turned off, I thought it sounded on the bright side too. I played a vox in a shop the other day with blue speakers, there wasn't a lot of difference between mine before I had the treble caps changed, maybe very slightly darker. I played Flingal Bunt and had the treble at 12 O'clock to match the record which is brighter than Hanks other stuff. The newer Voxes must be brighter than the older ones? I notice the U2 stuff is brighter, I think the Edge uses a 70s Vox? matthew

Hi Matthew, On most amps there is some treble present when the mids are turned up. Newer Voxes can be brighter with different bright cap values. Regards, Charlie

Hi Istvan and Charlie Thanks very much for posting the videos Istvan. Brilliant playing Charlie and one of the very best live sounds I've heard. As it happened my husband also walked in when I was listening and commented on the fantastic sound and playing too. The band was also excellent and I loved your Genie, Istvan - a super performance too! Best wishes Rosemary

Hi Chris, Thanks for your kind comments. I drove to Vienna and back, nearly 1000 miles each way. I'll try to get the promoters to buy plane tickets before we agree to a world tour! Hi Matthew, No other EQ. The amp's boost switch seems to bypass the treble cap in the tonestack so it doesn't do so much with the treble turned all the way down, but it does add some nice subtle mids. Hi Tommy, Thanks for your kind comments. I had blisters from rehearsing as I don't play so much these days, so I was actually struggling to keep it together at times. It's amazing what you have to do automatically to avoid pain! Still, I'd do it all over again, and probably will! Hi Rosemary, Thanks for your kind comments. The recorded sound has a lot to do with Istvan's video camera built in stereo mic, it records sound really well. I also was given the job of setting up the whole band mix on Istvan's mixer, then the output of the mixer was fed to the venue's PA system. Regards, Charlie
