Hi,
My complements to all. Very good sound, faithful to the music. I would have enjoyed being in the audience.
How many were in the audience and what size was the venue?
Bill

Hi Charlie & Friends,
Magnificent. Very well played by all involved and some really excellent tones from Charlie. Nice to see you all having fun, especially Charlie after all the work involved with the Hall & Collins Signature Echo.
Charlie, is that a volume pedal you are using? also what is to the right (as you see it) of it?
Regards, Tim.

Hi newliverman, Thanks for your kind comments. I was lucky to have found the sound accidentally with an amp I have never tried before!
Hi Bill, Thanks for your kind comments. The venue had a great atmosphere, and great to see it was full up before we even started playing!
Hi Tim, Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, you're right, it is good to have some fun after working so hard for so long on the H&CSE. My signal chain was guitar > H&CSE > Boss BE-5 > amp. The BE-5 has a buffered output for a tuner (I use a Boss TU12H), and an effects loop. The volume pedal was Istvan's Ernie Ball pedal (my Bespeco volume pedal's pot is worn out), connected in the BE-5's effects loop, and I used it to adjust my volume level like a sound mixer guy would do (it was connected in the wrong part of the chain for the way Hank uses one, but I don't play any tunes that would need it for that). Also, when the pedal backed off, I can tune silently. We did some other material where I played with a more traditional tone and used the compressor effect of the BE-5 sometimes. I like the BE-5 because it doesn't colour the sound as far as I can notice it.
Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie and band, Really nice sound and performance, sure had some gear on stage and looked like all enjoyed themselves. Is that a jazz guitar you are holding Page one. Cheers Les.

Hi Les, Thanks for your kind comments. Yes, the jazz guitar is my '66 Gibson L5-CES. It was originally bought new by a jazz player called Wilbur Wynne, who played with Buddy Rich in the early 60's I believe. Regards, Charlie

Hi John, Thanks. I noticed how the echo really sings when playing Shadoogie where I am hitting pretty hard. Even with all echo controls at 3 o' clock, which was how I set them for the gig. I was also surprised at how thick the sound was even though I was using light gauge strings (10, 11, 15, 26, 36, 46). Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie,
Must ask about the string gauge you use, I've never seen a set like that, did you take strings from different sets?
Regards, Tim.

Hi Tim, I use Newtone Electric Masters and the factory makes up the sets to my requirements. It can be an expensive way to buy strings though. My set is the same as a regular set of 10s except mine have a lighter gauge B and G for easier bending which I like for other styles I play. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie, I thought your Jazz guitar was a Gibson but didn't think it was that old. A really nice collectors Item that one, worth a dollar. I think Chet played one of those early on. Also when you played shadoogie on stage I noticed that sound you don't often here with that number. Is that how you hit the strings? plus string type and echo plus guitar setting all of those anyway it works Charlie. Regards Les.

Hi Les, Yes, hitting the strings hard definitely changes the sound in a good way when needed.
Hi Matthew, I always wanted to know how the sound I hear on stage compares with the sound out front. Now I have a better idea.

Hi Charlie Istvan (and the other lads), What wonderful live videos and promo for the already famous H&C Unit. Studio accurate live sound is difficult to capture and for a live performance, "being there" is such a big factor. For me this is an example of how dedicated "old fart" musos can recreate magic. Minor technical mistakes are just part of the live performance and very reassuring for all the rest of us ! Charlie, Shindig (not an easy tune to play properly) was top stuff and the "high solo" on Frightened City maybe even better than the Shad's recording. Regards George

Hi Robbie, Thanks for your kind comments. I don't play Shadows tunes very often, so this gig really was a one off but having said that there might be more in future!
Hi George, Thanks for your kind comments. I wasn't really banking on a good recorded result and rehearsal time was limited, but you might be right that there could be some useful promotional material with some of these videos.

Your not interested in going mainstream at this stage I know Charlie, I was thinking I could have promoted the Hall & Collins at the Melbourne guitar show last week Those George Evans hand wired amps I showed on here I notice only 2 shops in Melbourne sell them www.georgeevans.com.au/index.phpMatthew

Hi Matthew, Thanks for thinking of us. While I am trying to do my bit as joint inventor to promote the unit by playing at the odd gig etc., it is really up to the manufacturer, as they market the unit, to organise commercial promotional events. Regards, Charlie

Hi Jim, Thanks for your kind comments. I guess it was a crazy idea driving nearly 1000 miles each way to do one gig but it was a bit of an adventure and I have the memories! I did also enjoy doing up to 130mph on the German Autobahns, although too many road works and speed limits spoilt that fun! Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie!
First of all I would like to congratulate you and your friends on your performance at Fischamend. It must have been a great evening. A pity I didn’t know about it. I would have loved to be there as well.
Now that I have heard the Hall&Collins Unit with my own ears I have decided to purchase one. I know that there is only a limited number available that’s why I would like to ask whether I can order one? In case there are none left at the moment could you let me know as soon as the next series comes out?
Thank you in advance,
Best regards,
Tori

Hi Tori, Thank you, and glad you liked the videos. I think there may be a few units left from the current batch so I would suggest you contact Derek on the support email support@hallandcollins.com to ask if you can buy one now. If not I think the next batch will be ready for Christmas. Regards, Charlie
