Hi all. Our band plays not only Shadows and Cliff and The Shadows songs but also 50`s and 60`s Rock and Roll songs from the likes of Eddie Cochran, Buddy Holly, Elvis etc and I was wondering if an Rock and Roll authentic 50`s style(slapback) echo has been programmed into the H&C Echo to cater for this type of music. Many thanks, Terry.

Hi Terry, Yes, there is a slap echo patch based on Brian Setzer's RE-301 sound programmed into the H & C unit. It works well for all the artists you mention where a slap echo was used. Regards, Charlie

Many thanks Charlie for the prompt reply, could you specify which patch number it is please, also if you have current stock of the echo unit. It`s not a problem to wait if sold out at the moment. In any event I shall still be ordering the echo in the coming weeks. Kind regards, Terry

Hi again Charlie, I have filled in the form to order the H&C Echo this morning and so things should get moving once a member of your team contacts me. I mentioned earlier about our band playing quite a lot of Cliff and The Shad`s material, some of which might be considered as less well known, eg `D In Love`, `Theme For A Dream`, `A Girl Like You` and the like. I particularly like Hanks echo sound on these songs, especially `A girl Like You` and in particular towards the end of the guitar solo where he slightly dampens the strings whilst playing the two `A` notes which just about reveals the echo repeats. I was wondering if you have a patch which emulates Hanks echo sound on of some of these recordings whilst backing Cliff as I am anxious to emulate the sound as closely as possible. Kind regards, Terry

Hi Terry, Thanks for initiating your order. You should be hearing from Derek or one of the team very shortly. There is exactly that patch for Cliff tunes, in fact there are two to choose from, P09 and P11. I know exactly the part in Girl Like You that you mention, and I was able to identify which echo unit Hank used for it. Regards, Charlie

Many thanks for that Charlie, that`s great news as I really love that echo sound on those early 60`s Cliff and The Shadows songs. Derek has been in touch and so I am just waiting for Lin to contact me and all will be sorted. I`m really looking forward to getting my hands on the echo unit. Sincere thanks for all your help, it`s very much appreciated. Terry

Hi Charlie, The echo arrived this morning and I have to say that it`s everything that I hoped for and more. On opening the box and examining the echo I was reminded of the old days when British Made really meant quality. The weight gives the feeling of something built using top quality components and ready for many years of use. It complements my early 60`s AC30 perfectly whilst the echo sounds on offer are spot on and the large display suits someone of my advancing years for stage use. After a couple of hours of use my wife had to drag me away. I`m really looking forward to gigging the echo as it just sounds so good. You were right about the two patches available for `A Girl Like You` as well as the `Slapback Echo`sound for the Rock and Roll material. One question for you Charlie please, when you were researching the echo patches for the early Cliff and The Shadows songs did you keep a record of patches for certain songs, due to the fact as I mentioned before that our band play quite a lot of early Cliff & Shad`s material and it would be great to have the correct echo sound for each song. I really would like them if you have them please. All in all thank you for the professional manner in which my enquiry through to my order and subsequent delivery was handled. I shall be mailing Derek and Lin also to convey my thanks. Best regards, Terry

Hi Terry, I wasn't expecting you to have received your unit this quickly! Thanks for your initial report and glad to know you are delighted with it. I did try listening to many of Cliff's songs but is difficult to be certain of the echo unit used on some as Hank tended to have the echo level set lower, if echo was used at all. I don't think echo was used on Cliff's earliest recordings (before early 1960) but studio reverb is evident. One I am fairly sure about is I'm Willing To Learn where I think Hank used the first Echomatic at high speed, and that would be the Quatermassters Stores patch U08 with the Echo Level control set a bit lower than the usual 3 o' clock setting. You could instead edit the patch for a lower echo level and save it of course. I think for live playing U09 could be used for almost all the Cliff songs that need echo or a reverb type of sound. Regards, Charlie

Hi Charlie. I was kind of thinking the same thing re patch U09 for most of the Cliff songs, I`ve since played along to some of the early songs requiring echo or reverb and yes is does suit most of them very well. Many thanks once again. Regards Terry
