Hi Phil,
Again a great picture of your strat....I recognise the strat and the picture you used it for your very great BT cd I bought in the past. Did you install that medal on your strat? In the 80's I had the same kind of strat in possesion for a brief time, I bought it for a friend of mine...it was a late 63 and it was cheap as chips! He sold it a few year later for 10 times he paid for.....
Cheers Rob

Hi Rob,
I put that medallion on in the early 70's, old Strats were not looked on the same then as they were not yet vintage, given the time over I wouldn't have done anything to it

Hi Phil, Yep your right about how people look towards guitars in the 70"s, bin there done that.... I bought most of my pre-cbs Fenders in the 70's for very very low prices....People didn't care about these instrument a lot and "customized" away. The numbers I saw back then with brass nuts and other tuners etc...(which I didn't buy) are mind blowing now and regretfully too lol I dished quiet a few "pinkish" fiesta red 60's slab-boards because one or two things were done to it...(easily fixable with today knowledge) and they sounded and played great... But I was more into maple necks first, so I bought a 56/57 two tone first and sold that for a down payment on a fiesta red 58...(not so mint lol)The previous owner filled in al the damaged spots with the same colour of paint on the bare wood so it looks like dents now and in his wisdom he wanted a angled rim around the one piece white pickguard so he scrapped of the side of that plate Then after about a year I missed that strat so much I purchase another mint 57 two tone, then I bought a black maple neck 70 (same as Hank used back then)and customized the hell out of it because it has to be 100% like Hanks..... and gave the original parts away to help a friend Well to say I was ignorantly stupid is like Then I purchased a mint blue slab board 60 almost for free and I was kinda rebelling towards that darn fiesta... All the time I was looking for a Greenburst Marvin, but as we all know, except The Shadows no one had one as far as I know... Every time I stumble and broke my neck on a white one for cheap as chips, I declined for the honour (whatta mistekka da meekkaaa "quoting" Lieutenant Burterelli of 'allo 'allo).... Well to cut a long story short I ended up with 36 guitars and still I got that GAS sometimes.... Cheers Rob

Rob,
I think we all did stupid things to our now "vintage" guitars...if only we knew
I passed on a 1960 strat last year, it had been hand painted, the price £6k and with another say £700 for re-painting and slightly aging it probably would have turned out a nice guitar, the good early 60's today are around £17k.

Talk about crazy things to do ...I bought a Guitar Shop "Giffin Guitars" Arch No. 7 Kew Bridge. I'd known Roger from the 60's - he was the lead guitarist in our group (The Hustlers) in the 60's. Anyway ..having bought the shop "lock stock and barrell" as the saying goes ... I was having a rummage round and found a small clear plastic box with "Hank Marvin" written on it containing three old Strat pick ups. What's this I asked Roger ...he said "Oh they're from one of Hanks old Guitars" he wanted me to change them. We were Fender dealers ..so I bought a nice shiny new Fiesta Red Strat "Hank Marvin" special edition ...and promptly put Hanks pick ups in it. I sold the guitar on the well known auction site for about £550 to a Resaurant owner for him to hang on his "themed" Restaurant wall. Arghhhh why did I ever sell it ? PS: I also have an Eric Clapton special edition "Blackie Strat" ...but mines signed personally to me by Eric "To Ron Eric Clapton '99"
