Hi Charlie and All
I have be working on a old Dire Strates number (Sultans of Swing ) over the past few days.Is there a patch on either the Q2 or RFX2000 that will get me nearer to his sound. If not any suggestions for amp eq settings or any ideas as to what effects pedals may be of use ? would be gratefully excepted.
cheers All
Martin

i think knopfler uses those hotter texas pickups? and his fingers ofcourse, no pick.. both make a lot of his sound for starters.

Hi Martin
You also have to record with a Fender amp or simualation [ Tweed / Twin ] and use the out of phase sound [ pos. 2 pup ] with a lot of reverb and a little compression and forget about the echo. You must also tweak the amp a little to enhance the out of phase sound.
Good luck

You need the switch position 2 or 4 of a 5 way switch (I used to use position 4 which is bridge and middle pickups together). Set plenty of mids on the amp, not too much treble (the sound from the two pickups of the guitar will not need much treble), some compression if possible (Knopfler used an Orange Squeezer compressor), some reverb, and a delay around 300ms (Binson #4 on a Q2 should do it, this is program 30 on the RFX). If you do not have the facility to have reverb and echo at the same time, then the Abbey Road reverb program may be more useful than echo alone. Regards, Charlie

Thanks to All for your suggestions. They will keep me busy over the weekend .The main stumbling block apart from trying to play like MK is the compressor/sustainer it sounds rubbish when I turn it on.It seems to dampen down tone and volume I have obviously not got the settings right just yet and the suggested settings from Boss for this unit aren't up to much .The weekend is still young so perhaps I might crack it before work gets back in the way.
cheers

Hi Martin, If your Boss pedal has a tone control set it midway. The output volume should be increased if you lose volume with compression. Regards, Charlie
