Hi Eric I think you will find the two current model Tonelabs are the LE and ST, the LE is well featured and has a pedal, some people favoured the older SE (not the ST) because it did not have the pedal and was easier to put put on the desktop. The LE is slightly more feature rich in terms of FX control and has twin stereo output guitar jacks, whilst the the ST has a single stereo socket which is combined stereo output and headphones, but it also has a USB connection for direct linking to a computer. However, the ST seems to have more cab modelling, in essence I believe VOX have tried to increase the overall appeal for general use and recording and it includes a built in audio interface, so depending what setup you have this may offset some of the cost. For full information have a look at these sites: www.voxamps.com/us/pedals/tonelabst/www.voxamps.com/us/pedals/tonelable/In terms of quality and getting the VOX sound for Shadows music, I have an LE and several friends have this and various other models, and most of us are very pleased with the results we get. The valve does make difference in giving tone warmth IMO. If your gigging, I know several people who bypass the amp and go straight through a PA, it is also possible to get what they call a dedicated neutral amp and use the the Tonelab for all tonal effects. Hope this helps Gary

The SE has two pedals, the Tonelab you're referring to is called The Desktop. Both are similar blue colours.

Hi Eric,
I moved from the LE to the ST and I feel the ST is a great purchase. The amp/cab simulations are excellent, it's much smaller than the other so takes up less floor space and I don't regret the change. The LE is an excellent unit but for me, apart from its extra size getting in my way, its added features were mostly ones I simply didn't want to use for my type of playing needs. I also found it less user friendly and was constantly referring to the manual to work out which button or switch combinations did what. With the ST, I've organised its presets into maybe three choices that I regularly use and leave it at that. There are many others built in that can be modified to your tastes but for Shadows style music I feel the ones I've selected pretty much cover everything I'll need, so it's 'horses for courses', so to speak. I also have a Magicstomp with EFTP patches for specific echo patterns but the ST as a stand-alone product still produces some excellent sounds - and in stereo. And as Gary's said, the more modern ST does seem to have added features of particular use for our requirements. It's also less expensive so would still be my choice if deciding afresh.
