Hi Been practicing this tune for a while now, anyway got through it, a few tricky bits, tried a few different patches on my H&C. 14 sounds good and 35 sounds good but and its a big but I can't get the intro to sound as good as it should,i play on the bridge pick up but it sounds to trebly, when I listen to the record it sounds very mellow with sustain just the intro, any tips. Regards Pete.

Hi Pete, Patch U35 should sound good. Or if you want the sound I set up for Hank and you want to try editing a patch, go to patch U38, go into EDIT mode and find the head levels setting for Head 1 (H1). Find the head level setting for head 1 (it will be OFF when you find it) and change it to 0.0 dB. Do the same for head 1 feedback. Reduce the Master Feedback (Trim, then Feedback Trim) until there is no ringing on the echo tail (set to a higher negative number for less feedback, or a lower negative number for more feedback). If done correctly all heads will be audible and feedback will be coming from all the heads (this is Mode 6 on the RE301). If you like it, you can save the edited patch to any location in the USER Bank. If you don't like it, don't save it, just exit the edit mode without saving. To soften the bridge pickup tone you need to reduce the high end EQ on your amp (with the cut control if you have a Vox with that control), or if your bridge pickup has a tone control, try reducing the highs by setting it about halfway. Regards, Charlie

Or try taking your volume down to between 8 & 9. It works well for me.

Hi Pete, Head 1 should be 094.0, Head 2 should be 174.0, Head 3 should be 456.0. If you changed any of those you should put them back to these settings. Heads 4, 5 and 6 can be anything as they are not heard. You can edit a patch as many times as you want. Changing the name from Mode 5 to Mode 6 is appropriate if the delay times are correct. If the delay times are wrong it isn't really a RE301 sound any more. Regards, Charlie
