Many moons ago, a friend and I and our wives were invited by Tommy Emmanuel to play and show our guitars to him in his dressing room. My mate brought his Martin D41 with him....after a few minutes Tommy told him several times in a row what a nice sounding guitar it was and a looker too. So I said to my friend(in Dutch) 'He wants to try-out your guitar' huuu? was his answer. So I repeated it'. Then my friend told me he didn't hear Tommy at all, because he was so nervous! Tommy played the D41 and told us after a few tunes, he played Gene Autry's original Martin guitar and that was regarded the best sounding Martin ever build by a lot of people. But my friend's D41 sounded way better! Tommy proposed a swap all his TE Maton guitars he had with him...My friend declined! To cut a long story short, I had trouble to clime over the doorstep leaving Tommy's room so little I feel... Tommy hold back...but this geezer can play anything in every key you throw at him! Later that evening we saw the show...In the car driving home,we both told our wives we gonna stop playing and we would sell all our guitars asap. I didn't play guitar for weeks after that!
Cheers Rob
