Hi folks, A fortnight ago a friend of mine visit us with his Boss recorder and ask me if I could play a demo for him. His request was TFC... so I grabbed one of my 1960 slabboard strats(the one with 14-62 strings) and tried to remember the record version. So after a quick listen to the original and fiddling the knobs on the AC15H1TV to get a ballpark sound...I placed one of my mikes and did one attempt. So kinda live with the original BT, we only changed the balance between the BT and the solo a smidgen...and this is the humble result. Hope you like it, warts and all! Please tell me what's not OK, so I can learn something....
Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, Very good effort for a single attempt. Some notes are not exact but it all depends how fussy one wants to be. The sound is good but did you use the bridge or the middle pickup? If you did use the bridge pickup then the middle pickup could sound even more authentic, but you would also have to reduce the bass on the amp. Regards, Charlie

I agree with using the middle pickup the sound needs less twang.. As Charlie indicated use the amp tone controls to find the sweet spot you're aiming for. George.

Thanks guys, I know the middle pu is more suitable for this number, however on a genuine 59 years old guitar... there are sometimes situations you have compromise. The mid pu doesn't sound always "warmer/fatter" for some reason... A few years ago I got my paws on a maple neck pre-cbs strat and the reading on the multimeter was - but the bridge pickup still gave a good sound... the neck and mid pu's still worked but half power and thin. All has to do with the deterioration of the isolation layer of the heavy formvar wiring (or plain enamel on later guitars) and/or the potting wax. So my f red slabboard has a gremlin who's not always awake My other slabboard has a thin gauge set of strings 11-52. The only other 14-62 stringed is a maple neck... So in the spur of the moment I settled with the bridge pu.... For myself...I prefer kinda live recording ,instead of "produced" recordings in multiple takes and polished till they shine like a mirror for this site. Cheers Rob
