I have a Vox ac15, and consider to buy a smaller amp for home use. I think AC4 would be perfect, but I see there are different models like Vox ac4c1-12, ac4tv, ac4-bl, and a handwired model that I think is too expensive. I don’t know anything about the 4-series, so I wonder about the sound difference of these amps? I play mostly Shadows related instrumentals, so which one are the «best» for that use? 👍🎸

Hi,
The ac4tv produces a great sound, especially for home use, I would recommend this one.
Regards, Garry.

It may be ok at lower volume but if you look round on this site you will see other comments. I’m sure you could find my questions and the answeres I got but I traded it in and got an AC10 still bigger but I got a good deal

I had the bog standard AC4 8" and sold it very soon after. Replaced it with the Vox Mini 3 G2 great little amp with amp modelling as well. (Still have my undersused AC15 HW TV Anniversary) This was a test I posted a while ago, not the best BT but point was the amp sound. DCFMA.mp3Mike.

Vox Mini 3 is indeed a nice one for living/bed room use. Coincidently I also have a Vox AC15H1TV too...and a bunch more for torturing my back A AD60VTX is also light and you can alter the power to a very low level if a Mini3 is to small for your taste. A small Katana is also versatile...(that one I not have). Cheers Rob

Yes the mini 3 or 5 are hard to beat for home use and are relatively cheap. They are also great for recording. There were some great recordings but I can’t seem to find any now. It was Dave Robinson’s sound files using the mini 3 that made me get one

I would go for the AC4 BL out of the list you stated. The AC4 TV did not have much clean headroom I thought. I have the AC4 TV Limited Edition in blue and cream and that is a nice amp and the AC4 BL was the other one I would have gone for if not that one.
I also have a Vox VX 30 black plastic 30 watt with power control which does a great Shads sound. The new Vox Cambridge 50 is similar with 12" celestion speaker 50 watts and has top boost and normal channel sounds. Plenty of uTube examples of these.

Morning
I have a Vox AC4TV and a Vox Mini 3. Each has pros and cons: AC4TV has a good clean sound, but as already pointed out, not much headroom. The combined Volume/Gain control takes some setting up to get right, but the 3 power out settings are useful. Mini 3 is not valve and its sound is a bit boxy because of the smaller speaker. However, it does have effects, amp modelling, aux input and headphone socket.
So I guess it's a question of evaluating what features are more benefit to the individual and what you want to use it for. Personally, I prefer the AC4TV, because I also have a VT40+ that I use for the other features.
Sorry, I can't comment on other AC4 models.
Cheers
Keith

Have a look at the new Vox Cambridge 50 NuTube modelling amp. In this months "Guitarist" Magazine it was reviewed and given a 10 out of 10 and at £275 or thereabouts must be a great buy. Regards, Derek B.

i had a little AC4 for a short while but living in a flat i found it too loud. The Vox Mini 3 is great piece of kit but the Vox Adio AIR GT is great if a little expensive.
That said i use a Katana 50 Mk1 and have done now for a long time. Great at home for recording, silent playing etc and also great for gigs in pubs and clubs etc. Lightweight and sounds great.
