If you didn’t see the compilation of Paul’s appearances on BBC 2 last night and can’t watch it on the BBC iPlayer, then you can download it from here for the next 6 days Part 1Part 2

Thanks for the info, Sandra. Didnt catch those but 'suffered' Macca at the Cavern which followed. Awful sound and undewhelmed by his choice of songs. And he banged on about being 'back at the Cavern'. No, he wasn't - that was demolished to build an office block. He was at a poor replica across Mwtthew Street. Not a patch on the original. Bests Ian

Not one of his best performances, all getting a bit long in the tooth I reckon. Best when he sticks to playing bass, after all that it what he is….
Cheers, AJ

I saw the gig, he is getting on a bit, but still had a better performance than I have seen in the past, as for him only being a bass player he was always a guitarist and played lead on many Beatles tracks and always writes on piano and guitar, check out blackbird & Yesterday for great finger pickin' skills.
Mike.

Bests Ian I played at the "Real" cavern in 1966, it gets to me when friends visit Liverpool and say they went to the Cavern, it ain't the REAL one! Phil

Hi David they are compressed with winrar. I had to do it that way as it would be too big to send using WeTransfer as a single file. If you cannot extract them by right clicking on the part 1 and selectng extract here then you need a program to do it. You can get this one for free : www.7-zip.org/Have both part 1 and 2 files in the same folder and once you have installed 7 Zip you can right click on part 1 and click on extract here and it will do that then automatically extract the files in part 2 to make the single video file for you to play. If you are still struggling get back to me and I will see if I can reduce the size, without reducing the quality too much, and I can upload it again.

Sad the original Cavern was knocked down I thought it would have been heritage listed or something? Matthew Sadly when it was not kept as it was it was enterprising of those who went and tried to build a near replica of something like what the Cavern might have looked like for those who missed out on the original and those who have come later to get a idea of what it was like. !! Having visited it one thing that it does show is how small it was for a City the size of Liverpool and the surrounding area mind you back in the 60's these kind of clubs was ground breaking and a forerunner of bigger clubs to come nobody knew back then how long it would last or where it would lead to Pete

My memories of the "Real" Cavern, are, the stage was very small, when on it, it was like looking down a tunnel, the sound was not great from up on the stage as it bounced around all the brickwork. The so called dressing room "to the left of the stage when looking from the front and through a small bricked doorway" was a series of arched open rooms, my mother sent me a knitted jumper she had made, this was stollen when I was on stage, but all in all it was a great experience playing in this magical place, sadly no more!

Never played at the Cavern (old or new) but did play a few down the road at the old "Aintree Institute" known as "The Aintree I" which many thought was the better venue and very much revered by the the bands that played there which was most of the Liverpool bands and singers of the day. There were many messages written on the dressing room walls which read like an "who's - Who" of those great years. The story is (and this may be a scoop!) that "The Scaffold" included a reference into there song "Lilly The Pink" about the Aintree Institute ... many think the line "thank you very much for the Aintree "iron" was correct when in fact they sang thank you very much for the Aintree "I" which was something of a boys home/refuge before it became a music venue. Well, just my two penneth to a cold dark winters night. By the way, there was a local Aintree lady that used to take in washing and ironing and some thought that the whole song was about her and her famous iron but now we all know it wasn't ... well, we do don't we? Stay safe, Barry

Interesting seeing what amps they were using in the Cavern days John a Fender tweed and George a Gibson by the looks. Brian Epstein got them the Vox amps to use for free off Tom Jennings I read Matthew

Hi Matthew,
Epstein might well have acquired the Vox amps from Jennings but John Lennon did buy an AC15 from Epstein's music shop and he paid him on Higher Purchase for it and if I'm not mistaken Mike Maxfield (The Dakotas) stood guarantor for John on the deal. A copy of the HP document was in the Docks Beatles museum at one time.
Cheers Barry
