Anybody using this amp any any tips on getting shadows tones from it. I have just brought it along with the Yamaha magic stomp with the Charlie hall echoes from the past. I am trying to play cavatina which is patch u22 on the bridge and can't get a tone I like. I haven't been playing too long but will the amp and the Yamaha magic stomp with Charlie hall patches get me there or do I need more pedals. Also do you need to adjust the patches or should they be fine from the stomp. I did try searching to see if can find info on the vox but nothing showed up. Many thanks

Hi,
Try a 10 band graphic equaliser, look on youtube for That Sound by Ronnie Gustafsson and he demonstrates how to set up the eq.

Hello, patch 22 on the stomp does a great job, but bare in mind, Hank plays this using a swell pedal , try using the neck pickup, it gives a lovely mellow tone, and the *swell* effect can be simulated quite effectively. using the trem arm with slow undulations.

Cheers Frank, are the Charlie hall patches just the echo effect side, and do I need to add reverb and eq. I have a gp200lt multi effects pedal which I can add.I just seen a brilliant video on YouTube Italian shadows. He shows how he sets his guitar up and it's totally different to the way I have it. His guitar goes into the echo machine, from there he goes to reverb and then it finishes in 10 band eq. His bass, treble, tone adjuster all set to zero on his amp. I have my guitar going into my GP multi effects with compressor, analogue delay, spring reverb on. Then it goes into my magic stomp with patch u22. The amp is set with gain 10 o clock, bass 1 o clock, treble 12 o clock and volume barley on at 8 o clock. Home player and amp doesn't have headphones so can't play loud. Cheers

The EFTP patches on the Magicstomp are just the echo. There is no EQ applied to the dry guitar signal. You shouldn't need to add anything else if the guitar and amp are sounding as they should. Try setting the amp's treble control lower for a warmer sound, all the way off if you have to, and use the bridge pickup alone. Regards, Charlie

Cheers Charlie. Is there any info on what other effects you need to play the different shadows songs on your patch list. The list tells you which pickup to use but being a newbie I haven't a clue what else pedals you need for the different songs. I don't think the shadows used many pedals. It was Steve Renyolds YouTube channel that got me into this path ,but sadly he passed away. Cheers

Almost all Hank and Shadows tunes shouldn't need other effects. Cavatina and Deerhunter used a volume pedal but they can be played without one. Regards, Charlie

Many thanks for the reply, I am building a Stratocaster sort of Hank Marvin guitar and only thing I need to get now is the pickups. I was going for a Dimarzio fz-1 in the bridge and Seymour Duncan ssl-1 in middle and Seymour Duncan ssl-5 in neck. Do you think this combination is ok and if not your thoughts. Pickups must be available in UK and not crazy money. Many thanks Peter

You might find the FS-1 is a lot louder than the other 2 pickups. I think I would go for the SSL-1 for all 3 pickups, or at least the neck and middle positions if I were to go for the FS-1 in the bridge position. I have heard that not all FS-1 pickups are the same but I forget what the differences are. Maybe to do with the pole piece staggered height pattern, or flat poles. Regards, Charlie

I would take £80 for the set. The neck and middle pickups sound like a good vintage 50s Strat and the bridge pickup is a hit more like the FS-1 but without the excessive loudness. Regards, Charlie
