I have a set of Apaches, and I can honestly say you will not be disappointed if you decide to get a set, they are excellent.
I must say that the sound in the clip does not do them any favours at all,and Hank seems to get a bit carried away in the excitement, still they are more than worth having.

I believe Hank was playing Roger Newell's Strat in that clip. Roger is the bass player for Marty Wilde. Regards, Charlie

I've just seen the clip and do agree with you Alan. I was wondering if the strings used were of a lighter guage than Hank normally uses which of course affects both sound and playing feel for the many stretches played. Cheers. Mick

Hi Lou, This clip is linked from the Bareknuckle pick up site, they make the apache PU's. Vintage, noiseless, scatterwound, expensive. Its not the looking, but the listening Kind regards, grip

Hi Lou, It is often difficult or impossible to tell. Some experience with the different pickups Fender has used over the years would help. This won't help much but it is an example. I was in a shop in London's Denmark Street a few years ago. There was a 62 Strat in typical worn condition and being offered as all original for a lot of money. I looked at the pickups and could see immediately that they weren't the originals or at least not what I would expect to see on a 62 Strat. The one thing that told me that was the height of the G magnets. They were higher like the 50's style pickups which I immediately suspected of being modern vintage style replacements. From around 1961 Fender used a lower G magnet, roughly between the height of the D and B magnets. Another thing to look for is the hand bevelled edges on originals, and a rough look to the casting, with pit holes on the top surface. If I had been thinking of buying that guitar, I would have insisted on having it apart to see if the wire and soldering (and of course the pickups) looked all original. Regards, Charlie

Hi all. A couple of months ago Bare Knuckle wound me a left handed set of their Apache single coils for my LH 58 Strat. I specifically asked for 58 vintage LH stagger and three similar spec pickups without the RW/RP middle, as per original 58 Strat pickups. I fitted a new three position switch, a NOS C-D wax paper"Chiclet" .1mfd/150vdc capacitor and re wired with 22 gauge cloth/wax wire following a 1954-1961 Fender Strat wiring diagram. Going back to basics has given me the best Strat sound, I myself, have ever achieved. Bare Knuckle pickups; Recomended, great sound, very good value, very good service. Regards Geoff.
