Hi all i have been wondering what is the best vox for the shadows sound is it an ac15 or an ac30/4 or a ac30/6 now i know they had many different vox amps and everyone usually goes for a ac30/6 as they are the more popular and depends on the early or late sound so to speak but what about the ac30/4 the reason im asking is that my ac15 cc1x isnt loud enough and im thinking about an upgrade .

Hi Gazmac,
I have a AC30/6 and an AC15 both made in England before they went to China and I fitted a Roger Alcock EF86 Unit to both of them. This will give you the early Shadows sound and the top boost channel will give you the later sound.
I use the AC15 for smaller places and the AC30 if more 'clout' is needed. This is because I am not getting any younger and the AC30 isn't getting any lighter!!
Best regards,
Baz.

Hi Gazmac,
Yes the AC30/4 has the sound and so has the Heritage Series but they would work out at twice what I payed for mine.
Both of my Amps have the blue Alnico Speakers which give the right type of sound as well.
Best regards,
Baz.

Hi Gazmac,
I have a Rod Jinks VOX like amp (AC30 like with EF86 channel + a Top Boost Channel) + Celeston Blues. Total price about A$2800. Handwired in Australia.
It beats the JMI products I tested.
Many have commented on the sound when I used it at the Sydney Shadows Club.
As mentioned above, it seems to be getting heavier!

Trevor,
AC 15 and AC30 cannot compare, they have different positive qualities and negative ones, depending what you wanna play.
You mean your "AC 30" has only one loudspeaker ?
If not, it cannot compare for "Early Sounds"
Cheers

Hi all but didnt the ac30/4 have a two speakers and they used that for some of the early stuff did they not before they got there ac30/6 amps (although i could be wrong) maybe we get confused about what amps were used for what sound as i think they used ac15 first then the ac30/4 for some time did they not and then in the from 61 or 63 started using there ac30/6 this is only a guesstimate though others will probably correct me if im wrong .
keep the comments comming

Gaz,
If you are happy with the sound from your AC15 why not mike it up?
Does that open another can of worms?
Take care
