Hi Al,
I recently purchased a set Toneriders Pure Vintage. I must say they are great! (and cheap)
I have Strats with Fender 57/62 and DiMazio FS1, but the Toneriders are more open and warmer.
Very good for Shad sound.

The choice of pickups depends on the guitar itself to some extent. While I haven't tried them myself, the Toneriders already mentioned must be worth considering for the price alone as I have never seen a bad report on them.
I like Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's but both my Strats have swamp ash bodies and maple necks, not rosewood boards.
